DescriptionCVE.org

n8n is an open source workflow automation platform. Prior to 2.37.7 and 2.38.2, the OAuth Dynamic Client Registration endpoint bounded redirect_uris but accepted arbitrarily large client_name and grant_types values. An unauthenticated remote caller could repeatedly persist oversized values in oauth_clients and exhaust database storage. The affected validation is in packages/cli/src/modules/oauth-server/oauth-server.service.ts, including MAX_CLIENT_NAME_LENGTH and MAX_GRANT_TYPES. This issue is fixed in versions 2.37.7 and 2.38.2.

AnalysisAI

Unvalidated input sizes on the OAuth Dynamic Client Registration endpoint in n8n allow unauthenticated remote attackers to exhaust database storage by repeatedly submitting oversized client_name and grant_types values. Affected versions are all n8n releases prior to 2.37.7 (in the 2.37.x branch) and prior to 2.38.2 (in the 2.38.x branch). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The OAuth Dynamic Client Registration endpoint must be reachable over the network - this is the default for any n8n deployment that has the OAuth server module enabled (introduced as a feature of the n8n authorization server). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VA:H) scores 8.7 and accurately reflects the threat model: network-accessible, zero authentication, no special preconditions, and high availability impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to n8n@2.37.7 or n8n@2.38.2, both of which enforce server-side length caps (MAX_CLIENT_NAME_LENGTH and MAX_GRANT_TYPES) in the OAuth Dynamic Client Registration handler. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, restrict the OAuth Dynamic Client Registration endpoint to authorized clients via firewall or WAF, implement rate limiting on this endpoint, and enable database disk usage monitoring with immediate alerting. …
