5DescriptionCVE.org
n8n before 2.35.4 and 2.36.x before 2.36.2 does not validate credential references in the inline workflow JSON of nodes that execute an inline sub-workflow (e.g., the Workflow Tool node). A shared-workflow editor, or any user creating/updating a workflow via the REST API, Public API, or MCP, can persist a node referencing a credential they do not own. When the workflow is later executed under an identity that holds the credential, the inline sub-workflow resolves the secret and can send it to an attacker-controlled endpoint, resulting in credential exfiltration.
AnalysisAI
Credential exfiltration in n8n's workflow execution engine allows a low-privileged authenticated user to reference another user's credentials inside an inline sub-workflow node (such as the Workflow Tool node) without any ownership validation. Affected versions are n8n before 2.35.4 and 2.36.x before 2.36.2. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires a low-privilege authenticated n8n account (PR:L) with permission to create or update workflows through at least one of: the n8n web UI with shared-workflow editing enabled, the n8n REST API, the Public API, or the MCP interface. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 7.2 with PR:L reflects that exploitation requires an authenticated low-privilege account - unauthenticated attacks are not possible. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade n8n to version 2.35.4 (on the 2.35.x branch) or 2.36.2 (on the 2.36.x branch) as documented in the vendor security advisory at https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/security/advisories/GHSA-4r56-g65c-fm83. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
