A security flaw has been discovered in RooCodeInc Roo-Code up to 3.51.1. Affected by this vulnerability is the function optimizeQuery of the file src/utils/helpers.ts of the component CodeIndexManager. Performing a manipulation results in code injection. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. Multiple isses were reported to the vendor beforehand. They explain, that "they all apply to Roo Code, a project we no longer support - the repository was archived a while ago, and we don't encourage anyone to use it." This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.
AnalysisAI
Code injection in RooCodeInc Roo-Code up to version 3.51.1 allows a remote, low-privileged attacker with passive user interaction to inject and execute arbitrary code via the optimizeQuery function in the CodeIndexManager component (src/utils/helpers.ts). A public proof-of-concept exploit exists on GitHub. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a low level of privileges (PR:L per CVSS 4.0), meaning the attacker must have some authenticated or credentialed access to the Roo-Code environment rather than being fully unauthenticated. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | Despite the RCE tag, the official CVSS 4.0 score is 2.0, reflecting low-level impacts (VC:L/VI:L/VA:L) and exploitation constraints (PR:L/UI:P). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | A low-privileged remote attacker with access to the Roo-Code interface crafts a malicious input designed to manipulate the `optimizeQuery` function in CodeIndexManager, injecting executable code into the query-processing pipeline. With a public POC already available on GitHub, an attacker can adapt the demonstrated technique with minimal effort. … |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch is available, and none will be issued - the vendor has archived the repository and explicitly discouraged continued use. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
