8.8 HIGH

Network-reachable via SQL submission through ODBC; PR:L reflects required authenticated low-privilege query access; scope unchanged as overflow is contained within the driver host process.

DescriptionCVE.org

A user able to submit SQL through an application using the MongoDB Connector for BI ODBC driver can supply a positioned-cursor statement whose cursor name exceeds the size of an internal fixed-length buffer. Because the name length is not bounded before the driver builds its diagnostic message, memory adjacent to that buffer is overwritten with user-supplied content. This can terminate the hosting application process and may allow unintended code to run within it.

AnalysisAI

Stack-based buffer overflow in the MongoDB BI Connector ODBC driver allows a low-privileged SQL-capable user to overwrite adjacent stack memory by submitting a positioned-cursor statement with a cursor name exceeding the size of an internal fixed-length buffer. Any application exposing MongoDB through this ODBC driver - including common BI tools such as Tableau, Excel, or MicroStrategy - is affected across all currently listed versions (CPE wildcard). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The attacker must have low-privilege authenticated access to submit arbitrary SQL through an application that uses the MongoDB BI Connector ODBC driver - confirmed by CVSS PR:L. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N, score 8.7) signals a network-reachable, low-complexity flaw requiring only low-privilege SQL access - a realistic bar in BI environments where analysts routinely write ad-hoc queries. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The primary remediation is to upgrade to the latest patched release of the MongoDB BI Connector ODBC Driver; the exact fixed version must be determined from the official GitHub releases page at https://github.com/mongodb/mongo-bi-connector-odbc-driver/releases, as no specific fix version was confirmed in the available data. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI
