Broken auth shim grants admin without credentials so PR:N; a raw filename write primitive is low-complexity (AC:L), network-reachable (AV:N), and yields full C/I/A via code execution in the server process.

DescriptionCVE.org

DB-GPT builds the destination path for an uploaded skill from the multipart filename without constraining it to the upload directory. skill_upload in packages/dbgpt-app/src/dbgpt_app/openapi/api_v1/agentic_data_api.py takes file.filename as given and writes the request body to upload_dir / filename. A path composed with that operator discards the left operand when the right one is absolute and follows parent references otherwise, so a filename such as ../../../tmp/x or /tmp/x resolves outside the intended directory; nothing canonicalises the result, checks that it remains under the upload root, or prevents a .py suffix. The route's only dependency is get_user_from_headers in dbgpt_serve/utils/auth.py, which returns a request carrying the admin role whether or not a user_id header is supplied, so the endpoint is reachable without credentials. A remote attacker holding no account can therefore write attacker-controlled bytes to any path the server process can write, place a new Python module inside the application package or replace one the application already imports, and obtain code execution in the server process when that module is next imported.

AnalysisAI

Unauthenticated arbitrary file write in DB-GPT 0.8.0 lets remote attackers achieve remote code execution through the skill_upload endpoint, which builds an upload path by joining the user-controlled multipart filename to the upload directory without canonicalisation or containment checks. Because the route's only auth dependency (get_user_from_headers) returns an admin-role request even when no credentials are supplied, an attacker with no account can write a .py file such as ../../../tmp/x or /tmp/x anywhere the server process can write, then plant or overwrite a Python module that executes when next imported. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation No special conditions - remote unauthenticated exploitation against default configurations of DB-GPT 0.8.0, because get_user_from_headers grants the admin role even with no user_id header, making the skill_upload route reachable without credentials. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine top-priority issue rather than a high-CVSS-but-low-real-risk finding. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An unauthenticated attacker sends a multipart POST to the skill upload endpoint with a filename like ../../../<app-package>/evil.py (or an absolute /path/evil.py) and an arbitrary Python payload as the body. The file lands outside the upload directory inside the application's import path, and when DB-GPT next imports that module - on the next request, task, or restart - the attacker's code runs in the server process. …
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to DB-GPT v0.8.1, whose changelog explicitly includes 'validate skill upload filenames (#3065)', 'constrain python upload filenames (#3064)', 'validate example file names (#3066)' and 'restrict personal skill script execution (#3071)' (https://github.com/eosphoros-ai/DB-GPT/releases/tag/v0.8.1). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
