Network-accessible control panel (AV:N), no complexity barriers once authenticated (AC:L), requires only a low-privilege account (PR:L), no scope change as impact is confined to the Craft host.

Craft CMS versions from 4.0.0-RC1 before 4.18.2 and from 5.0.0-RC1 before 5.10.6 contain an authenticated remote code execution vulnerability in the control panel element-search condition handling. Craft cleanses the outer request-controlled condition array via Component::cleanseConfig(), but Conditions::createCondition() later decodes and merges the JSON string in condition.config without re-running cleanseConfig() on the decoded configuration. Because condition.config is a JSON string during the first cleanse, Yii special config keys such as 'as ...' and 'on ...' can be hidden inside it and, after JSON decoding, are interpreted by Yii as behavior/event configuration during FieldLayout object creation. An attacker with an authenticated control panel session (and a valid CSRF token) can exploit this to execute operating system commands as the PHP/web user.

AnalysisAI
Authenticated remote code execution in Craft CMS control panels allows any user with a valid panel session to execute operating system commands as the PHP/web user by exploiting a config-cleanse bypass in element-search condition handling. Affected versions span the 4.x branch from 4.0.0-RC1 through 4.18.1, and the 5.x branch from 5.0.0-RC1 through 5.10.5. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The attacker must hold an active, authenticated Craft CMS control panel session with any role that has access to the element-search UI - this includes low-privilege roles such as author or editor, not only administrators. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.7 with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H accurately reflects a high-severity but authenticated attack surface: the low-privilege (PR:L) requirement is the primary limiting factor, and there is no attack complexity or precondition penalty (AC:L/AT:N). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker with a low-privilege Craft control panel account - such as an editor or author - authenticates, obtains a valid CSRF token from the panel interface, and submits a crafted element-search request in which the condition.config field contains a JSON-encoded Yii behavior or event handler pointing to a PHP callable executing an OS command. The control panel endpoint returns a normal JSON response (semi-blind execution), but the attacker retrieves command output via a server-side file-write side effect in a subsequent request, confirming full OS-level code execution as the web user. … |
| Remediation | The primary fix is to upgrade Craft CMS to version 4.18.2 (for 4.x deployments) or 5.10.6 (for 5.x deployments); these are the vendor-confirmed fixed versions per GHSA-265m-7826-wjqm. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
