DescriptionCVE.org

n8n before 1.123.67, 2.31.5, and 2.32.1 contains a prototype pollution vulnerability in the VM expression engine. An authenticated user able to create or edit a workflow expression can abuse the engine's array-element access to obtain a reference to a host built-in and pollute its prototype in the main n8n process (a sandbox escape), leading to a denial of service. Both self-hosted and cloud instances running the VM expression engine are affected.

AnalysisAI

Prototype pollution in n8n's VM expression engine enables authenticated workflow editors to escape the sandbox and crash the main n8n process by obtaining a reference to a host built-in and corrupting its prototype. Affected versions span the entire 1.x branch prior to 1.123.67 and two 2.x patch lines (before 2.31.5 and 2.32.1), covering both self-hosted deployments and n8n cloud instances using the VM expression engine. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The attacker must be authenticated to the n8n instance and must hold permissions to create or edit workflow expressions - this is the primary gating condition captured by PR:L and AT:P in the CVSS 4.0 vector. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.1 with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N reflects a network-reachable, low-complexity attack that requires authenticated low-privileged access and a specific attack precondition (AT:P) - the attacker must hold workflow creation or editing permissions. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade n8n to version 1.123.67 (1.x branch), 2.31.5 (2.x prior to 2.32.0), or 2.32.1 (2.32.x branch) - all three are confirmed fixed releases per the official GHSA-hx4h-vr3m-45vh advisory and the upstream commit at https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/commit/f69dfc6dd2178a14ea1624d2e1d403c2e755042f. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
