AC:H because a reliable network timing oracle requires controlled low-jitter conditions not present on typical internet paths; PR:N for the unauthenticated reset endpoint; no integrity or availability impact applies.

The getgrav/grav-plugin-login Composer plugin before 3.9.1 (used by Grav) compares password reset and account activation tokens using a non-constant-time === string comparison instead of hash_equals() in classes/Controller.php (taskReset()) and login.php (activation handler). Because the token-submission endpoint (taskReset) also lacks rate limiting, an attacker could in principle send repeated token guesses against a known username and use the timing differences to attempt to recover a valid token, though the vendor rates the practical exploitability as low and no end-to-end network exploit has been demonstrated.
AnalysisAI
Password reset and account activation token comparison in Grav Login Plugin before 3.9.1 uses PHP's non-constant-time === operator instead of hash_equals(), exposing a CWE-208 timing oracle in both taskReset() (classes/Controller.php) and the activation handler (login.php). Combined with the absence of rate limiting on the token-submission endpoint, an unauthenticated network attacker can submit high-volume repeated token guesses against a known username and statistically recover a valid reset token via timing discrepancy. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | A valid username on the target Grav installation must be known or guessable (usernames may be discoverable through registration flows or public author pages). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 base score of 8.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H) represents an upper-bound theoretical assessment; the vendor's own characterization of practical exploitability as low, combined with the inherent noise of network-layer timing measurements, substantially reduces realistic risk below what the score implies. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade the grav-plugin-login Composer package to version 3.9.1 or later, which replaces the === token comparison with hash_equals() in both the taskReset() method and the account activation handler; the vendor advisory at https://github.com/getgrav/grav/security/advisories/GHSA-x239-6jqx-5hjh provides upgrade guidance. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
