2DescriptionCVE.org
A flaw in Elasticsearch allows a low-privileged authenticated user who can index documents to submit a single small document containing a crafted user-supplied input. Processing one such document occupies a worker thread from a bounded pool for a disproportionate amount of time, degrading the availability of indexing operations on the affected node.
AnalysisAI
Elasticsearch's indexing pipeline contains an algorithmic complexity flaw (CWE-407) that allows any low-privileged authenticated user with document indexing rights to submit a single crafted document that occupies a worker thread in the bounded indexing thread pool for a disproportionate duration, degrading indexing availability on the affected node. Affected versions span both the 8.x and 9.x release lines, with fixes available in 8.19.20 and 9.4.5 per ESA-2026-77. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a valid Elasticsearch account with document indexing privileges (index:data/write/* or equivalent) on at least one accessible index. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.3 Medium score appropriately reflects a bounded, partial availability impact rather than a total denial-of-service. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade Elasticsearch to version 8.19.20 or later for 8.x deployments, or to version 9.4.5 or later for 9.x deployments, as detailed in the vendor security advisory ESA-2026-77 at https://discuss.elastic.co/t/elasticsearch-8-19-20-9-4-5-security-update-esa-2026-77/389500. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
