Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires GRR administrator privileges AND use of the LDAP connector feature: the attacker must first define an LDAP connector and complete a successful connection (trivially satisfiable by pointing GRR at an attacker-controlled LDAP server), then submit malicious PHP in connector settings parameters such as ldap_filter (also ldap_group_filter and related fields hardened in the fix), which is persisted into /personnalisation/config_ldap.inc.php and executed. Limiting factors: this is not exploitable against default/unauthenticated deployments - it depends on holding the administrator role and on the LDAP connector configuration workflow being reachable; it is effectively a malicious-or-compromised-admin / privilege-to-code-execution issue rather than remote unauthenticated RCE. Fixed in GRR 4.5.0; the vendor patch (input validation via ldap_escape and filter syntax checks) is the remediation.

Impact

This is a genuine but access-gated RCE. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H = 9.1) is driven high by the scope change and triple-high impact, but the PR:H requirement is the dominant limiting factor: exploitation requires existing GRR administrator privileges, so this is not a pre-auth internet-facing bug. The vuln.today Decision label is act_now and a vendor patch exists, which argues for prompt remediation; however, no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no SSVC decision-point data (automatable, exploitation status) were supplied, so the act_now label cannot be cross-validated against widespread-exploitation signals. No public exploit reference was provided - only the advisory and the fix commit - so there is no evidence of exploit code or active exploitation. The practical risk is best read as post-compromise privilege-to-code escalation: an attacker who already holds (or phishes/steals) admin credentials, or a malicious administrator, converts config access into OS-level code execution. EPSS/KEV absence here is a data gap, not evidence of low risk; prioritize based on how exposed and trusted your GRR admin accounts are.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who has obtained GRR administrator access opens the LDAP connector configuration, points it at an LDAP server they control so the connection check succeeds, and on the subsequent connector-settings page submits a crafted value in a parameter such as ldap_filter containing PHP code. That input is written into /personnalisation/config_ldap.inc.php, which is later included and executed, yielding remote code execution on the GRR host. No public exploit code was identified in the provided data, though the advisory describes the mechanism in enough detail to reproduce it.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

PHP code injection in GRR (JeromeDevome reservation/resource-management application) prior to 4.5.0 lets an authenticated administrator turn LDAP connector settings into arbitrary PHP executed by the web server. The admin must first register an LDAP connector and complete a successful bind - trivially arranged by pointing GRR at an attacker-controlled LDAP server - then submit malicious values in fields such as ldap_filter, which are persisted into /personnalisation/config_ldap.inc.php. Because the injected payload lands in an included PHP configuration file, successful exploitation yields code execution with the web server's privileges (CVSS 9.1, scope-changed); the vendor has released GRR 4.5.0 with input validation, and no public exploit is identified at time of analysis, though the advisory severity warrants priority patching.

RemediationAI

Upgrade GRR to 4.5.0, the vendor-released fixed version, which validates LDAP filter syntax, applies ldap_escape() to filter and DN parameters and restricts attribute-name fields to alphanumerics, underscore and hyphen (patch commit 3ff9504ae557da1e8e208149acbf8c7f04de645f; advisory https://github.com/JeromeDevome/GRR/security/advisories/GHSA-fp4f-xmw6-5jf8). Where upgrading cannot be done immediately, treat GRR administrator accounts as code-execution-capable and cut the exposure path: restrict the admin role to a small, tightly controlled set of named accounts (this removes the main source of risk but does nothing against a malicious or compromised administrator, which is the assumed threat model); disable or remove the LDAP connector configuration feature if directory integration is not in use, accepting the loss of LDAP-based authentication; and make the /personnalisation/ directory non-writable to the web server, or monitor config_ldap.inc.php for changes containing PHP tags or unexpected executable statements, which detects or blocks persistence of the injected payload but may break the legitimate connector-settings workflow. Because the vulnerable file is executed by the application, integrity monitoring of that path should be paired with review of all generated configuration files written by admin pages, since the same concatenation pattern may exist elsewhere.

Technical ContextAI · show details

GRR is a PHP web application; its LDAP connector administration page (admin/controleurs/admin_config_ldap.php) accepts POST parameters including ldap_filter, ldap_group_filter, base_ldap, base_ldap_autre, ldap_group_base, ldap_group_member_attr and ldap_group_user_field and writes them into the generated configuration file /personnalisation/config_ldap.inc.php, which is subsequently included and evaluated as PHP. The root cause is CWE-94 (improper control of generation of code): user-controlled strings are concatenated into PHP source without escaping or syntax validation, so a quote-and-statement payload escapes the intended string literal and executes. The upstream fix (commit 3ff9504ae557da1e8e208149acbf8c7f04de645f) adds a validateLdapFilter() helper that checks parenthesis balance and applies ldap_escape() with LDAP_ESCAPE_FILTER to the filter fields, applies ldap_escape() with LDAP_ESCAPE_DN to base DN fields, and strips non-alphanumeric characters from attribute-name fields via preg_replace. The affected CPE is cpe:2.3:a:jeromedevome:grr:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, with the package advisory noting versions up to and including 4.4.2 vulnerable and 4.5.0 fixed. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H) reflects a network-reachable, low-complexity attack that requires high (administrator) privileges but crosses a security boundary once the configuration file is weaponised.

DescriptionCVE.org

GRR is a resource management and reservation application. Prior to the advisory-reported fixed version 4.5.0, an administrator can inject malicious PHP through LDAP connector configuration parameters such as ldap_filter, poisoning /personnalisation/config_ldap.inc.php and permitting remote code execution. The administrator must first successfully connect to an LDAP server, which can be attacker-controlled, and then submit malicious input on the subsequent connector settings page. The advisory reports this issue as fixed in version 4.5.0.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

CVE-2026-58256 is a critical PHP code injection vulnerability in GRR, a reservation and resource-management application, affecting versions prior to 4.5.0. An authenticated administrator can exploit LDAP connector settings to execute arbitrary code with web server privileges, potentially compromising the application and underlying server. Leadership should prioritize patching to prevent administrative account misuse or compromise from leading to full system compromise.

Code Injection CRITICAL

Code injection occurs when an application accepts user input and passes it directly into a language interpreter or evaluator without proper sanitization.

Remote Code Execution represents the critical moment when an attacker successfully runs arbitrary code on a target system without physical access.
