DescriptionCVE.org

Improper validation of length fields in the Apache IoTDB RPC service may allow a remote unauthenticated attacker to cause a denial of service. By sending a crafted malformed Thrift frame, an attacker can cause IoTDB to allocate an excessive amount of memory and crash with an OutOfMemoryError.

This issue affects Apache IoTDB: before 1.3.8, from 2.0.0 before 2.0.9.

Users are recommended to upgrade to version 2.0.10, which fixes the issue.

AnalysisAI

Denial of service in Apache IoTDB's Thrift-based RPC service allows remote unauthenticated attackers to crash the database by sending a single crafted malformed frame. Improper validation of length fields (CWE-789) causes IoTDB to attempt arbitrarily large heap allocations, exhausting JVM memory and terminating the process with an OutOfMemoryError. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The Apache IoTDB Thrift RPC service (default TCP port 6667) must be network-reachable by the attacker. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment No CVSS vector or score was provided for this CVE, which limits automated risk stratification; all metric assessments below are independently derived from the description. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The primary fix is to upgrade to Apache IoTDB 2.0.10, which the vendor states resolves the improper length validation. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, identify all systems running Apache IoTDB 1.x (before version 1.3.8) or 2.0.x (versions 2.0.0 through 2.0.8) and assess their network exposure to untrusted sources. …
