Heimdall is a cloud native Identity Aware Proxy and Access Control Decision service. Prior to version 0.17.14, Heimdall handles URL-encoded slashes (%2F) in a case-sensitive manner, while percent-encoding is defined to be case-insensitive. As a result, the lowercase equivalent (%2f) is not recognized and therefore not processed as expected when allow_encoded_slashes is set to off (the default setting). This discrepancy can lead to differences in how request paths are interpreted by heimdall and upstream components, which may result in authorization bypass. This issue has been patched in version 0.17.14.
AnalysisAI
Authorization bypass in Heimdall cloud-native Identity Aware Proxy affects versions prior to 0.17.14 due to case-sensitive URL-encoded slash handling. Remote unauthenticated attackers can craft requests with lowercase-encoded slashes (%2f) to evade path-based access controls when 'allow_encoded_slashes' is disabled (default). …

RemediationAI
Within 24 hours: Identify all Heimdall deployments and document current versions in use; disable 'allow_encoded_slashes' if not already disabled and verify all path-based access control rules are restrictive. Within 7 days: Upgrade all Heimdall instances to version 0.17.14 or later; test access controls post-upgrade to confirm bypass is remediated. …
