DescriptionCVE.org
OpenClaw before 2026.3.22 contains a privilege escalation vulnerability in the Control UI that allows unauthenticated sessions to retain self-declared privileged scopes without device identity verification. Attackers can exploit the device-less allow path in the trusted-proxy mechanism to maintain elevated permissions by declaring arbitrary scopes, bypassing device identity requirements.
AnalysisAI
Privilege escalation in OpenClaw Control UI enables unauthenticated attackers to claim arbitrary privileged scopes without device identity verification. By exploiting the trusted-proxy mechanism's device-less allow path, attackers bypass authentication requirements and maintain elevated permissions across sessions. Affects OpenClaw versions prior to 2026.3.22. Attackers with low-privilege access can escalate to high-impact confidentiality and integrity compromise. No public exploit identified at time of analysis.
Technical ContextAI
Root cause lies in CWE-286 (incorrect authentication) within trusted-proxy Control UI code path. Vulnerable logic accepts self-declared scope claims from unauthenticated sessions without validating device identity, violating zero-trust principles. CVSS vector PR:L indicates low-privilege requirement but effective privilege escalation to administrative scope via scope injection.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: OpenClaw 2026.3.22. Immediate upgrade required to patched version, which implements device identity verification for all scope declarations in the trusted-proxy Control UI flow. Apply commits 630f1479c44f78484dfa21bb407cbe6f171dac87 and ccf16cd8892402022439346ae1d23352e3707e9e from upstream repository. If immediate patching is not feasible, disable or restrict network access to the Control UI interface and enforce network-level authentication via reverse proxy with validated device certificates until upgrade completion.
