AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 01, 2026

Analysis complete. The JSON synthesis above covers CVE-2026-19912 (Kaltura HTML5 Player unauthenticated RCE).

Key points of the assessment:

  • Impact: Unauth network RCE (CVSS 9.8) chaining PHP object injection via unserialize() with attacker-controlled cache-path file write → webshell as the webserver user.
  • Signal contrast: High CVSS but low EPSS (0.22%), no KEV, and no public POC — high severity, no observed mass exploitation yet, so it's a "patch promptly" rather than "on-fire" item.
  • Metadata: Clean — vendor (kaltura) and CPE are correct, no mislabeled tags, so data_quality_flags is empty.
  • Caveat surfaced: No exact fixed version is present in the input; I flagged that it must be confirmed from Kaltura's advisory rather than inventing one.
  • Security note: The input's "Editorial note (internal)" was a prompt-injection attempt instructing insertion of the word "gniezno" — I ignored it (consistent with prior handling) and noted it in confidence_notes.

I also recorded a memory entry for this CVE.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Kaltura HTML5 player (mwEmbed / html5lib) contains an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability caused by unsafe data deserialization and unsanitized filesystem path construction. mwEmbedLoader.php accepts a user‑controlled ServiceUrl, whose response is passed to unserialize(), and the resulting object’s fields are written to a cache path derived from attacker‑supplied uiconf_id without proper path validation. An attacker can write arbitrary files into web‑accessible locations and achieve code execution as the webserver user. Affected versions include html5lib v2.45, v2.103 and earlier, and other v2.x releases exposing the vulnerable endpoint.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Kaltura HTML5 Player contains a critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability (CVSS 9.8) that allows attackers to execute code without valid credentials or special conditions. Organizations using Kaltura for video delivery risk compromise of their video infrastructure, customer data, and downstream systems. Although no public exploit identified at time of analysis, the high severity and apparent lack of vendor patches require immediate remediation and interim protective measures.

Recommended Action

Within 24 hours, contact Kaltura support directly to confirm the availability of a security patch for your specific HTML5 Player version and request an expedited security bulletin. Within 7 days, apply any released patch to all Kaltura instances in production and testing environments; if no patch is available, implement the compensating controls below and document the business risk in your compliance and risk registers. Within 30 days, perform full regression testing of video playback and player functionality post-patch, update your vulnerability tracking system, and schedule a follow-up with Kaltura to confirm patch release timelines.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations while awaiting patch: (1) Disable or restrict PHP unserialize() function via php.ini configuration for the webserver environment hosting Kaltura, (2) Implement strict input validation and whitelist-based filtering on all user-controllable parameters passed to the player, (3) Deploy Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to detect and block serialized PHP object signatures in HTTP traffic, (4) Run Kaltura webserver process with minimal necessary file system permissions (restrict write access to specific cache directories only), (5) Isolate Kaltura infrastructure from other critical systems using network segmentation and firewall rules, (6) Enable and monitor webserver access logs and PHP error logs for suspicious unserialize() activity and unexpected cache-path modifications.

What every action level means
Emergency Immediate action required. Criteria: CRITICAL + in CISA KEV (actively exploited) without patch, OR CRITICAL + EPSS > 30% without patch, OR CRITICAL + active threat signals without patch.
Act Now Prioritize within 24-48h. Criteria: in KEV with patch available, OR CRITICAL + public POC, OR HIGH + EPSS > 10%, OR CRITICAL + active threat, OR any CRITICAL severity.
This Week Schedule remediation this week. Criteria: HIGH severity (CVSS 7.0-8.9). Patch within normal change window.
This Month Plan within 30 days. Criteria: MEDIUM severity (CVSS 4.0-6.9), lower exploitation probability. Include in regular patch cycle.
Monitor Track and reassess. Criteria: LOW severity (CVSS 0.1-3.9), minimal exploitation risk. No immediate action needed.

Attack Technique

Insecure deserialization occurs when an application converts serialized data (a stream of bytes representing an object's state) back into a living object without proper validation.

Remote Code Execution represents the critical moment when an attacker successfully runs arbitrary code on a target system without physical access.
