DescriptionCVE.org

The All in One SEO WordPress plugin before 5.0.2.1 does not correctly determine which shortcodes are present in content derived from user input before deciding which ones to strip, allowing unauthenticated users to execute arbitrary shortcodes registered on the site. On sites upgraded from older versions the protection is disabled outright, making the issue reachable without any crafted input.

AnalysisAI

Unauthenticated shortcode injection in the All in One SEO (AIOSEO) WordPress plugin before 5.0.2.1 lets remote attackers smuggle registered shortcodes past the plugin's shortcode-stripping routine and have them executed in content derived from user input; on sites upgraded from older plugin versions the stripping protection is disabled entirely, so no crafted payload is required. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N, 6.5) reflects unauthenticated, no-interaction reachability with limited confidentiality and integrity impact rather than full compromise, and the practical severity depends on which shortcodes are registered on the target (from the plugin, theme, or other plugins). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Two reachability modes exist. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a moderate-priority issue rather than a critical one, and the signals are largely consistent. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade the All in One SEO plugin to 5.0.2.1 (the version listed as the fix in the advisory); because this is a WordPress.org plugin the update can be applied from the Plugins screen or via WP-CLI (`wp plugin update all-in-one-seo-pack`), and the upgrade also restores the shortcode-stripping protection that was disabled on installations migrated from older versions, which is the reason patching is important even for sites with no obvious attack surface. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
