| Exploitation Conditions | Requires that the a2ui client (<= 0.10.4) render an Image, Video, or Audio player component whose 'url' value is attacker-influenced - i.e., sourced from an untrusted or compromised A2UI message/content provider - and that a user view the rendered surface (passive interaction, UI:P). Exploitation is limited by: (1) the need for the attacker to control or inject the component 'url', (2) the low-confidentiality-only impact (VC:L; no integrity or availability effect), and (3) the specific disallowed schemes the fix targets (javascript:, vbscript:, file:, blob:, and protocol-relative //), while data: URLs remain intentionally permitted. The javascript:/vbscript: schemes are among the blocked values in the PR tests; the available sources do not establish script execution in these media src contexts, so impact should be treated as the stated low-confidentiality resource-loading/disclosure rather than code execution. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-to-moderate priority issue, not a top-tier emergency. The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L, base 5.3 Medium) describes a network-reachable, low-complexity flaw with no privileges but requiring passive user interaction (UI:P) and yielding only low confidentiality impact (VC:L) with no integrity or availability effect. The SSVC/vuln.today Decision label is 'this_month', consistent with a Medium severity rather than act_now/emergency. The flaw is NOT in CISA KEV, so there is no confirmed active exploitation. No EPSS score was provided in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified here - this is missing data, not a low score. No working exploit code is supplied; the references are a VulDB entry, a GitHub issue (#3077) and the fixing pull request (#3108), so this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' A notable conflict exists in the input: the Patch field states 'Available from vendor,' but the CVE description says 'the pull request to fix this issue awaits acceptance' and PR #3108 is the referenced fix - verify whether a fixed release actually exists versus only a pending/merged PR. Overall: a real, patch-track-worthy input-validation weakness with limited (low-confidentiality) impact and no evidence of widespread or active exploitation. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A malicious or compromised A2UI content source supplies an Image, Video, or Audio player component whose 'url' argument uses a disallowed scheme (e.g. file:///etc/passwd, a protocol-relative //evil.example.com/pixel.png, or a blob: URL). When a user views the rendered surface (UI:P), the pre-fix client places the unsanitized value directly into the media element's src attribute, enabling resource loading from unintended schemes and limited information disclosure. No public exploit is identified; the attack mechanism is inferred from the fixing PR #3108 test cases rather than a released PoC. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026
Improper URL validation in A2UI's Image, Video and Audio player components (versions up to and including 0.10.4) lets an attacker who can influence a component's 'url' value push disallowed schemes - javascript:, vbscript:, file:, blob: and protocol-relative // URLs - into the media element's src attribute, resulting in low-confidentiality resource loading or disclosure for users who view the rendered surface. The issue is remote and requires only passive user interaction (UI:P) once a crafted A2UI message is rendered by the client; data: URLs remain intentionally permitted by the fix. Severity is modest (CVSS 4.0 base 5.3; independently assessed CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N), there is no CISA KEV entry, and no public exploit was identified at time of analysis - an upstream fix exists as pull request #3108 but, per the advisory, still awaits acceptance.
RemediationAI
Upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed - pull request https://github.com/a2ui-project/a2ui/pull/3108 adds a sanitizeMediaUrl() helper that strips disallowed schemes (javascript:, vbscript:, file:, blob:, and protocol-relative // URLs) from Image, AudioPlayer and VideoPlayer src values while continuing to allow data: URLs, but the advisory states the pull request awaits acceptance, so no fixed release number can be cited and teams should track the PR and issue #3077 for the merged version. Until a patched release is published, the effective compensating control is at the trust boundary: restrict which A2UI message providers can push updateComponents payloads to the client (allow-list trusted content origins, authenticate the message source) so the component 'url' property cannot be attacker-influenced - trade-off is reduced flexibility for multi-source or user-generated surfaces. As a second layer, sanitize or reject non-https/data: URL values in the A2UI payload pipeline or proxy before they reach the renderer, accepting that blocking protocol-relative //host paths will break CDN-relative media references and that blocking blob: will break client-side generated media, and that data: URLs must stay permitted to preserve inline-image and inline-audio functionality. Technical ContextAI · show details
A2UI is a component/rendering framework whose web client ships a 'basic catalog' of Lit-based web components (Image, AudioPlayer, VideoPlayer, and peers) under typescript/core/web_core/src/universal/basic_catalog, driven by v0.9 protocol messages containing updateComponents payloads with an id, component type and properties such as 'url'. The flaw is CWE-20 improper input validation: the component took the caller-supplied 'url' property and bound it essentially verbatim into the src attribute of the underlying <img>/<audio>/<video> element, with no scheme allow-list. Because the protocol content can originate from a remote or third-party A2UI message provider, a value such as javascript:, vbscript:, file:///etc/passwd, blob: or a scheme-relative //host/path could reach the DOM sink. The proposed fix introduces a sanitizeMediaUrl() helper in the universal index and applies it to the media components, with unit tests asserting that data: URLs (data:image/png;base64,..., data:audio/mp3;base64,...) still populate src while the disallowed schemes cause src to be omitted entirely. Note that the available sources do not establish script execution in these media src contexts; the assessed impact is the stated low-confidentiality resource-loading/disclosure (VC:L, no integrity or availability effect), not code execution.

DescriptionCVE.org
A vulnerability was found in a2ui up to 0.10.4. This vulnerability affects unknown code of the file src/v0_9/basic_catalog/components/Image.js of the component Image Player/Video Player/Audio Player. Performing a manipulation of the argument url results in improper input validation. The attack may be initiated remotely. The pull request to fix this issue awaits acceptance.
