| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a specific non-default deployment: the event must be served on a DIFFERENT domain than the organizer page - the vendor states the attack only works under this cross-domain configuration. It further requires victim user interaction (the victim must follow an attacker-crafted link) and the victim failing to notice they have been logged into an unfamiliar (attacker's) customer account before completing an order. The attacker needs no authentication or prior privileges (PR:N), but success depends on social engineering and the victim actually placing an order in the hijacked session, which limits real-world reliability. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely low-risk issue, and the signals are consistent for once. The vendor's CVSS 4.0 vector scores 1.7 with high attack complexity (AC:H) and exploit maturity E:U (unproven), there is no CISA KEV listing, no public POC, and no EPSS supplied. The described impact is minor - a login-CSRF / session-fixation style flaw where a victim is silently logged into the ATTACKER's account, causing the victim's subsequent order details to be captured by the attacker (a confidentiality/integrity leak of order data, VC:L/VI:L, no availability impact). Exploitation is further gated by a non-default deployment condition (the event must be served on a different domain than the organizer page) and by convincing the victim to click a crafted link and not notice they are logged into a foreign account. One inconsistency worth noting: the vendor set UI:N despite the description explicitly requiring the victim to follow a crafted link, which is at minimum passive user interaction (UI:P) - this makes the published vector slightly optimistic on attacker convenience but does not change the low overall severity. Bottom line: not a priority; treat as a routine patch item. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a link that, when followed by a victim on a pretix instance where the event lives on a different domain than the organizer page, silently authenticates the victim into the attacker-controlled customer account. If the victim proceeds to place an order without noticing they are in someone else's account, their order details (personal/purchase data) are written into the attacker's account for the attacker to read. No public exploit code is identified and the vendor marks exploit maturity as unproven (E:U). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 29, 2026
Session fixation in pretix allows an attacker to trick a victim into following a crafted link that silently logs the victim into the attacker's own customer account, so order details the victim subsequently enters can be captured into that attacker-controlled account. The behavior only occurs in a non-default cross-domain deployment where the event is served from a different domain than the organizer page, and it additionally requires victim interaction and the victim failing to notice the unfamiliar logged-in account before completing an order, which keeps practical reliability low; the issue is assessed as genuinely low risk (CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N). No public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis, and pretix has published a fix in its 2026-7-1 release.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor-released fix by upgrading pretix to the release documented in the vendor advisory at https://pretix.eu/about/en/blog/20260929-release-2026-7-1/ (the 2026-7-1 release), which is the primary and recommended remediation; after upgrading, verify that session identifiers are no longer accepted across the event/organizer domain boundary. Where upgrading cannot be done immediately, the most effective compensating control is to eliminate the vulnerable configuration: serve the event pages and the organizer page from the same registrable domain (for example, by consolidating custom event domains behind a shared parent domain or by using the same host), at the cost of losing the flexibility of per-event custom domains and possibly requiring reverse-proxy or DNS changes. As a secondary hardening step, scope the pretix session cookie tightly to the domain that actually hosts the authenticated application (avoid wildcard/parent-domain cookie settings) so a session established on another domain is not honored, accepting that this may break intentional cross-subdomain single sign-on if the organizer relies on it. Because exploitation depends on a victim following an attacker-supplied link and not noticing the unfamiliar account, brief customers/organizers to check the account name shown at checkout and to start orders from a freshly loaded pretix page rather than from emailed or third-party links; this reduces but does not remove exposure and should not be treated as a substitute for patching. No vendor-released patch other than the referenced release is identified in the input data, and no CISA KEV listing or public exploit code is associated with this CVE.

Technical ContextAI · show details
pretix is an open-source event ticketing platform that manages organizers, events, customer accounts and orders, and this issue is a session-management weakness in the class of session fixation/cross-domain session scoping (no CWE identifier was supplied in the source data). Because the session cookie or session identifier can be established against a domain other than the one hosting the organizer page, an attacker who already holds a valid customer account can hand a victim a link that binds the victim's browser to the attacker's session; any order the victim then completes inside that session is attributed to the attacker's account rather than the victim's. This is why the vendor states the attack only works when the event is available on a different domain than the organizer page - on the default same-domain deployment the session context cannot be crossed this way. The CPE entry cpe:2.3:a:pretix:pretix:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* indicates the entire pretix product line is treated as affected up to the release containing the fix, and the CVSS 4.0 vector in the source data (AV:N/AC:H/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N/E:U, score 1.7) is consistent with an unauthenticated network attack against confidentiality and integrity with no availability impact; our assessment tightens user interaction to required (UI:R) and treats all impact as confined to the vulnerable component (S:U), reflecting the deployment-specific and social-engineering-dependent nature of the exploit.

1DescriptionCVE.org
If an attacker is able to convince a victim on a specially crafted link, the victim is logged in to the attacker's customer account. If the victim does not notice this, this might lead to their order details being stored into the attacker's account. The attack only works when the event is available on a different domain than the organizer page.
