| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the HCL DevOps Deploy HTTP listener remains enabled and reachable and that it does not redirect to HTTPS (the default/as-shipped behavior described), AND that a victim actually sends credentials or session data over that cleartext HTTP channel. The attacker must additionally hold an on-path or same-segment network position enabling passive packet capture or active man-in-the-middle interception - this network-position requirement (reflected as AC:H) is the primary limiting factor and means the flaw is not exploitable by an arbitrary remote attacker with no path access. Risk is substantially higher for deployments exposed to untrusted or shared networks and effectively mitigated where only HTTPS is reachable or TLS is terminated upstream. |
| Impact | This is a genuine-but-moderate issue, not a drop-everything priority. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N, C:H/I:N/A:N, score 5.9) shows a network-reachable, unauthenticated weakness whose only rated impact is confidentiality - but AC:H is the critical signal: successful attack requires the adversary to already occupy a privileged position on the network path (man-in-the-middle or passive traffic capture), which is the realistic throttle on exploitation. EPSS reinforces low urgency at 0.15% (4th percentile), and there is no CISA KEV listing and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, so there is no evidence of active exploitation or weaponization. No SSVC decision data was provided in the input. The signals are mutually consistent rather than conflicting: a high-confidentiality TLS/cleartext flaw that is technically network-exploitable but practically gated by the need for adjacent network access and plaintext HTTP usage, hence the sub-6.0 score and very low EPSS. One note of caution: the CVSS vector sets I:N, yet the vendor description explicitly says an attacker could 'modify' credentials and session data via MITM - that implies an integrity impact the published vector does not credit, so the official I:N likely understates the flaw (see assessed vector below). Treat this as a standard-priority TLS hardening/configuration fix, prioritized higher for internet-exposed or untrusted-network deployments. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker on a shared or compromised network segment between users and an HCL DevOps Deploy server passively captures traffic sent to the still-open HTTP port, or actively intercepts it as a man-in-the-middle. Because the server fails to redirect HTTP to HTTPS, a user's login credentials and session tokens traverse the wire in cleartext and are harvested, after which the attacker replays the session or modifies in-flight data. No public exploit is required - standard network sniffing or interception tooling suffices once network position is obtained. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 07, 2026
Cleartext transmission of credentials and session data in HCL DevOps Deploy occurs because the product's HTTP listener remains reachable and fails to redirect clients to HTTPS, allowing an on-path attacker to passively capture or actively manipulate authentication and session traffic. The CPE wildcard cpe:2.3:a:hcltechsw:hcl_devops_deploy:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* indicates the issue applies across the product line rather than to a single confirmed version. Exploitation is not trivial: it requires the cleartext listener to be exposed and a victim to actually transmit sensitive data over it, plus an attacker already positioned on the network path (reflected as AC:H in the CVSS vector, CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N), so authentication is not required (PR:N) but path access is. There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, no CISA KEV listing, and EPSS is only 0.15% (4th percentile), making this a genuine-but-moderate issue rather than an urgent one.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data, so the fix should be pursued through the HCL advisory at https://support.hcl-software.com/csm?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0127333, which is the authoritative source for the affected builds and any released update. Until an update is applied, the most effective and lowest-risk mitigation is to disable or unbind the plaintext HTTP listener so that only the HTTPS connector is reachable, accepting the side effect that any legacy clients or integrations hard-coded to http:// URLs will break and must be repointed at https://. Where the HTTP port cannot be disabled, enforce a server-level redirect from HTTP to HTTPS and block the cleartext port (commonly 8080 or the configured HTTP port) at the network boundary or host firewall, with the trade-off that internal health checks, load-balancer probes, or monitoring tools using that port will need reconfiguration. Segmenting DevOps Deploy behind a TLS-terminating reverse proxy or restricting management access to trusted internal subnets reduces the on-path interception window but does not protect traffic between the proxy and the backend if that leg is also cleartext. Because exploitation requires an attacker already positioned on the network path, prioritizing these controls for deployments reachable from untrusted or shared networks gives the highest risk reduction per unit of effort.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-319, Cleartext Transmission of Sensitive Information, combined with a misconfiguration/design gap in which the HCL DevOps Deploy HTTP endpoint does not enforce an HTTP-to-HTTPS redirect. In a properly hardened deployment, plaintext requests should be refused or 301/302-redirected to a TLS-protected endpoint so that credentials, session cookies, and API tokens never traverse the wire unencrypted. Because that redirect is absent, session-related data and login submissions can be observed by anyone with passive capture capability on the same segment, and an active man-in-the-middle can alter responses or injected content. The HS (high) attack complexity rating assigned both by NVD (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) and in our assessment reflects that the attacker must hold an on-path or same-segment network position - the flaw is not exploitable by an arbitrary remote actor with no route to the traffic. Exploitation also depends on a victim actually using the cleartext channel. Our independent assessment raises the integrity sub-score to I:L to account for tampering potential, but the overall impact profile remains centered on confidentiality of credentials and session material.

AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N
AV:N and PR:N/UI:N since no auth is needed, AC:H because the attacker must achieve an on-path/MITM position; C:H for exposed credentials and I:L because the description states session data can be modified.

DescriptionCVE.org
HCL DevOps Deploy is susceptible to a cleartext transmission of sensitive information because the HTTP port remains accessible and does not redirect to HTTPS as intended. As a result, an attacker with network access could intercept or modify user credentials and session-related data via passive monitoring or man-in-the-middle attacks.
