HIGH 7.8

Description

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/migrate: prevent potential UAF If we hit the error path, the previous fence (if there is one) has already been put() prior to this, so doing a fence_wait could lead to UAF. Tweak the flow to do to the put() until after we do the wait. (cherry picked from commit 9b7ca35ed28fe5fad86e9d9c24ebd1271e4c9c3e)

Analysis

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/migrate: prevent potential UAF If we hit the error path, the previous fence (if there is one) has already been put() prior. Rated high severity (CVSS 7.8), this vulnerability is low attack complexity. This Use After Free vulnerability could allow attackers to access freed memory to execute arbitrary code or crash the application.

Technical Context

This vulnerability is classified as Use After Free (CWE-416), which allows attackers to access freed memory to execute arbitrary code or crash the application. (cherry picked from commit 9b7ca35ed28fe5fad86e9d9c24ebd1271e4c9c3e) Affected products include: Linux Linux Kernel.

Affected Products

Linux Linux Kernel.

Remediation

A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Use smart pointers or garbage-collected languages. Set pointers to NULL after freeing. Enable memory sanitizers.
