Description
This vulnerability allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of ChargePoint Home Flex charging stations. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the SrvrToSmSetAutoChnlListMsg function. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of root.
Analysis
This vulnerability allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of ChargePoint Home Flex charging stations. Rated high severity (CVSS 8.8), this vulnerability is no authentication required, low attack complexity. No vendor patch available.
Technical Context
This vulnerability is classified as Buffer Copy without Size Check (CWE-120), which allows attackers to overflow a buffer to corrupt adjacent memory. Affected products include: Chargepoint Home Flex Nema 14-50 Plug Firmware, Chargepoint Home Flex Hardwired Firmware, Chargepoint Home Flex Nema 6-50 Plug Firmware.
Affected Products
Chargepoint Home Flex Nema 14-50 Plug Firmware, Chargepoint Home Flex Hardwired Firmware, Chargepoint Home Flex Nema 6-50 Plug Firmware.
Remediation
No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Always validate buffer sizes before copy operations. Use bounded functions (strncpy, snprintf). Enable compiler protections.
