2DescriptionNVD
It was found that the fix for CVE-2021-41773 in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.50 was insufficient. An attacker could use a path traversal attack to map URLs to files outside the directories configured by Alias-like directives. If files outside of these directories are not protected by the usual default configuration "require all denied", these requests can succeed. If CGI scripts are also enabled for these aliased pathes, this could allow for remote code execution. This issue only affects Apache 2.4.49 and Apache 2.4.50 and not earlier versions.
AnalysisAI
It was found that the fix for CVE-2021-41773 in Apache HTTP Server 2.4.50 was insufficient. Rated critical severity (CVSS 9.8), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable, no authentication required, low attack complexity. Public exploit code available.
Technical ContextAI
This vulnerability is classified as Path Traversal (CWE-22), which allows attackers to access files and directories outside the intended path. Affected products include: Apache Http Server, Fedoraproject Fedora, Oracle Instantis Enterprisetrack, Oracle Jd Edwards Enterpriseone Tools, Oracle Secure Backup.
RemediationAI
A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Validate and canonicalize file paths. Use chroot or sandboxing. Reject input containing path separators or '../' sequences.
