Redis is an open source, in-memory database that persists on disk. Rated high severity (CVSS 7.5), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable. This Integer Overflow vulnerability could allow attackers to cause unexpected behavior through arithmetic overflow.
RemediationAI
A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Validate arithmetic operations, use safe integer libraries, check bounds before allocation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
This vulnerability is classified as Integer Overflow (CWE-190), which allows attackers to cause unexpected behavior through arithmetic overflow. Redis is an open source, in-memory database that persists on disk. An integer overflow bug in the underlying string library can be used to corrupt the heap and potentially result with denial of service or remote code execution. The vulnerability involves changing the default proto-max-bulk-len configuration parameter to a very large value and constructing specially crafted network payloads or commands. The problem is fixed in Redis versions 6.2.6, 6.0.16 and 5.0.14. An additional workaround to mitigate the problem without patching the redis-server executable is to prevent users from modifying the proto-max-bulk-len configuration parameter. This can be done using ACL to restrict unprivileged users from using the CONFIG SET command. Affected products include: Redis, Fedoraproject Fedora, Debian Debian Linux, Netapp Management Services For Element Software And Netapp Hci, Oracle Communications Operations Monitor.

Attack Technique
Integer overflow occurs when an arithmetic operation produces a result that exceeds the maximum value a given integer type can store.
Remote Code Execution represents the critical moment when an attacker successfully runs arbitrary code on a target system without physical access.
Denial of Service attacks render applications or systems unavailable by overwhelming resources or triggering failure conditions.
