Exploitation Conditions

Exploitable only against Privasys ra-tls-clients verifiers prior to 0.11.0 that use the default policy with no platform allow-list (AllowedPlatformIDs / allowed_platform_ids empty), because such verifiers accept valid TEE measurements from any unrevoked platform without checking which machine produced them. The attacker must either forge TEE attestation evidence or extract attestation secrets from a separate compromised-but-still-unrevoked TEE platform (Intel SGX/TDX or AMD SEV-SNP) and present valid measurements from it - this requirement is what drives the CVSS AC:H and AT:P ratings. Exploitation is LIMITED by the need to possess a genuine unrevoked platform or forge evidence, and is fully mitigated by upgrading to 0.11.0 and pinning expected machines via AllowedPlatformIDs, which fails closed when no platform identity is reported and is additionally backed by PCK/CRL revocation checking.

Impact

This is a genuine high-severity design flaw rather than an inflated CVSS score, but its real-world exploitability is gated by demanding preconditions. The only signal available is the CVSS 4.0 vector (9.1 Critical: AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N with high confidentiality and integrity impact, no availability or subsequent-system impact) - there is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vector's AC:H and AT:P (attack requirements present) correctly reflect that exploitation is not trivial: an attacker must either forge valid TEE attestation evidence or extract attestation secrets from a separate compromised-but-unrevoked TEE platform, which is a substantial barrier. The PR:N/UI:N combination means that once those preconditions are met, no authentication or victim interaction is needed, so a capable attacker who already controls a genuine unrevoked SGX/TDX/SEV-SNP machine can impersonate the attested endpoint and defeat the entire trust guarantee of attested TLS. In short, the signals are internally consistent - high impact, network reachable, but high attack complexity with specific attack requirements - pointing to a flaw that matters greatly to the narrow set of confidential-computing deployments that use this library, while being far from mass-exploitable. No KEV/EPSS/POC data is present, so there is no evidence of active or opportunistic exploitation.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who operates (or has compromised) a genuine, unrevoked TEE platform presents valid attestation evidence from that machine to a Privasys ra-tls-clients verifier that has not pinned platform identities. Because versions prior to 0.11.0 accept correct measurements from any unrevoked platform regardless of which machine produced them, the verifier treats the attacker's endpoint as the intended Attester, letting the attacker impersonate the attested TLS endpoint and intercept or manipulate the session. No public exploit code is known; exploitation requires either forging evidence or controlling a legitimate unrevoked TEE platform.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 12, 2026

Privasys ra-tls-clients verifiers before 0.11.0 accept TEE attestation evidence without binding it to an explicitly authorized platform identity, so an unauthenticated remote attacker (CVSS vector PR:N) who can either forge attestation evidence or extract attestation secrets from a separate compromised-but-still-unrevoked Intel SGX/TDX or AMD SEV-SNP platform can present valid measurements from that other machine and impersonate the attested TLS endpoint to the verifier. Exploitation is gated by high attack complexity (AC:H, AT:P) because the attacker must actually control or forge a genuine unrevoked TEE platform, but confidentiality and integrity impact is rated High (assessed CVSS:3.1 8.1; vendor CVSS 4.0 score 9.1), and affected deployments are precisely those running the default policy with an empty platform allow-list. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and the issue is not listed in CISA KEV; the flaw is fixed by ra-tls-clients 0.11.0, which introduces platform allow-listing that fails closed.

RemediationAI

Upgrade Privasys ra-tls-clients to version 0.11.0 (vendor-released patch: 0.11.0; commit 1179ed0, release tag v0.11.0) and, for server-side enforcement, attestation-server v0.5.1, as described in advisory GHSA-pj2x-5wqv-fh57. After upgrading, remove the default permissive behavior by populating the platform allow-list on the verification policy (AllowedPlatformIDs in Go; allowed_platform_ids in Rust and Python; allowedPlatformIds in TypeScript; AllowedPlatformIds in .NET) with the hex identifiers of the machines you operate, ignoring case and the separators '-', ':' and space. A non-empty list requires QuoteVerification to be enabled, is sent with the verify request so the server can reject other platforms with the verdict PLATFORM_NOT_ALLOWED, is re-checked inside each SDK against the identity the server reports, and fails closed if the server reports no platform object; ensure the server also runs PCK chain revocation checking (PCK_REVOCATION_MODE=enforce, the default), since a revoked platform must never pass. Trade-offs to plan for: leaving the allow-list empty preserves the vulnerability, and pinning identifies the host rather than the VM, so a cloud VM that lands on a different host after a stop/start presents a new identity and will be refused until the list is updated, which can cause a deliberate availability interruption; attestation server unavailability or missing CRLs also fails closed by design.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The affected code implements Remote Attestation TLS (RA-TLS) client utilities in Go, Rust, Python, TypeScript and .NET that verify attested TLS connections by validating TEE quotes. The root cause is CWE-346 (Origin Validation Error): a successfully verified quote proves only that a genuine TEE with the reported measurements signed the evidence, not which physical machine produced it, so evidence from any platform whose attestation key has not been revoked was accepted. Cryptographic verification therefore stopped at measurements and TCB status, leaving the relying party unable to distinguish the intended attester from an arbitrary unrevoked platform. The upstream fix adds an explicitly authorized platform identity derived from the verified evidence: for Intel SGX and TDX the identity is the PCK certificate's Platform Instance ID (SGX extension OID 1.2.840.113741.1.13.1.6, present on certificates issued by the Intel SGX PCK Platform CA), otherwise the PPID (OID .1); for AMD SEV-SNP it is the report's 64-byte CHIP_ID. The correct precedence is Platform Instance ID, then PPID, then CHIP_ID, and the value is read from the leaf certificate that verified the QE report signature and is bound to the quote signer through the chain to the Intel SGX Root CA. Because the identity is only as trustworthy as the attestation server reporting it, the design also adds PCK chain revocation checking against Intel CRLs.

DescriptionCVE.org

Privasys Remote Attestation TLS Clients provides multi-language utilities for verifying attested TLS connections. Prior to 0.11.0, TEE attestation evidence in Privasys attested TLS is accepted without requiring an explicitly authorized platform identity. When a network attacker can forge evidence or extract attestation secrets from a compromised unrevoked platform, the verifier accepts valid measurements from a different unrevoked TEE platform as though they came from the intended Attester. The attacker can impersonate the attested TLS endpoint. This issue is fixed in version 0.11.0.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Privasys ra-tls-clients verifiers before 0.11.0 can be tricked into trusting a different TEE platform, allowing an unauthenticated remote attacker to impersonate an attested TLS endpoint and undermine confidentiality and integrity in affected deployments. This matters most for organizations relying on default verifier policies with empty platform allow-lists, because the trust model for confidential-computing workloads is bypassed. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and exploitation requires control of a genuine unrevoked TEE platform or forged attestation evidence, but the potential business impact is high for exposed attestation-dependent services.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Apply vendor patch: ra-tls-clients 0.11.0. If patch deployment is delayed or availability is disputed, enforce a non-empty platform allow-list, restrict verifier network reachability, rotate and revoke TEE attestation secrets, and monitor for endpoint impersonation.
