| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires ALL of: (1) the attacker already possesses a valid enclave RA-TLS private key (a prior key-compromise, reflected by CVSS AT:P); (2) the RA-TLS deployment is using challenge-response mode - the patch notes deterministic/cached-quote mode is fully verified in the cert-verifier callback and is unaffected; (3) a running version prior to wasm-v0.40.0; and (4) the attacker can relay the genuine quote and terminate the TLS connection (MITM positioning). The limiting factors are significant: without the stolen private key the quote cannot be presented at all, and challenge mode is the only vulnerable path, so defenders not using challenge-mode RA-TLS or already on wasm-v0.40.0+ are not exposed. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 base score of 9.1 (Critical) is driven by network reach (AV:N), no privileges or user interaction (PR:N/UI:N) and high confidentiality and integrity impact (VC:H/VI:H), but it is meaningfully tempered by two metrics the raw number obscures: AC:H and AT:P. The vulnerability is only exploitable by an attacker who has ALREADY obtained a valid enclave TLS private key - a substantial prerequisite that implies a prior, separate compromise of the enclave's key material - and additionally requires the attacker to be positioned to relay and terminate a TLS connection. This is therefore a high-barrier, targeted attack rather than an opportunistic internet-wide one. No EPSS score was provided in the input, there is no CISA KEV listing (not present in input), and no public exploit code is referenced (no POC in input), so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The signals are internally consistent - a high nominal severity paired with explicit attack-requirement/complexity penalties and the absence of exploitation evidence - pointing to a genuine but conditional attestation-integrity flaw rather than a mass-exploitation emergency. Net: treat as a real priority for anyone running Enclave OS Mini in a confidential-computing trust chain, but the stolen-private-key precondition and niche footprint place it below unauthenticated-RCE-class threats. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who has separately obtained an enclave's RA-TLS private key positions themselves as a man-in-the-middle and relays a genuine, correctly-formed SGX/TDX quote (whose ReportData binds only the cert public-key hash and client nonce) onto a connection they themselves terminate. Because the pre-fix challenge-mode path never bound the quote to the live TLS session, the relying party accepts the attacker-controlled connection as the authentic attested enclave and discloses or trusts data accordingly. No public exploit code is referenced, and CVSS AC:H/AT:P indicate the attack requires both key compromise and MITM relay positioning. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 09, 2026
Attestation bypass in PrivaSys Enclave OS Mini before wasm-v0.40.0 allows an attacker who already possesses a valid enclave RA-TLS private key to relay a genuine SGX/TDX attestation quote onto a TLS connection the attacker terminates, so a relying party accepts an attacker-controlled channel as the attested enclave. The root cause is a missing TLS-session channel binding (CWE-346): in challenge-response mode the quote's ReportData folded only the certificate public-key hash and the client nonce, so nothing in the quote committed to the specific handshake, making a relayed quote valid on any connection. CVSS 4.0 rates this 9.1 (network reachable, unauthenticated per PR:N, no user interaction, high confidentiality and integrity impact), but the independent assessment (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N) and the AT:P metric correctly temper it: exploitation presupposes a prior enclave key compromise and a challenge-mode deployment, and no public exploit has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Enclave OS Mini to wasm-v0.40.0 (https://github.com/Privasys/enclave-os-mini/releases/tag/wasm-v0.40.0), which implements post-handshake RA-TLS channel binding and bumps the bundled rustls fork to privasys-v0.7.0; the fix is visible in commit 9f541c849ef733d2df2851a666f359d01dcdcb8e and described in advisory GHSA-49qm-4pj3-w2c6. Because the attack requires a stolen enclave TLS private key, treat key compromise as an incident: rotate and re-provision RA-TLS enclave identities on upgrade, since a previously leaked key otherwise remains usable against unpatched relying parties. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to stop using challenge-response RA-TLS on the client side and rely on deterministic/cached-quote verification, which is not affected by this defect - the trade-off is that cached quotes are not fresh and provide weaker replay resistance, so this should be time-boxed until wasm-v0.40.0 is deployed. Additional layered controls: enforce strict enclave measurement policy (MRENCLAVE/MRSIGNER) on relying parties so only expected images are accepted, and apply certificate pinning or mutual TLS plus network segmentation on the RA-TLS endpoint to make quote relaying and MITM termination harder; note that pinning does not fix the missing session binding and must not be treated as a substitute for the patch. Monitor for anomalous RA-TLS terminations and audit logs for quotes whose verification succeeded on unexpected network paths.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Enclave OS Mini is a Rust runtime for confidential applications running inside Intel SGX enclaves, and its RA-TLS (Remote Attestation TLS) layer fuses TLS with hardware attestation so that a peer can verify both the enclave identity and the TLS endpoint. In challenge-response mode the server presents an X.509 certificate carrying an SGX quote3 (or TDX quote4) extension, and the quote's 64-byte report_data field is computed as SHA-512(SHA-256(SPKI) || client-nonce) so that the quote is cryptographically tied to the certificate key and the fresh challenge. The defect is an origin-validation failure (CWE-346): because report_data incorporated no value derived from the TLS handshake key schedule, the quote was valid on any transport. An attacker holding the enclave TLS private key could place a genuine, unmodified quote on a connection they terminate (MITM/relay) and pass verification, since the relying party checked only that the quote matched the presented certificate and nonce, not that it matched this session. The fix introduces a 32-byte channel binder derived from the TLS key schedule (ratls_channel_binder), extends report_data to SHA-512(SHA-256(SPKI) || nonce || binder), and performs the check post-handshake but before any application data is sent, failing closed on a relayed, co-located, or unbound quote. Because the binder is only available after ServerHello, the check was moved out of the rustls certificate-verifier callback into a dedicated verify_channel_binding step; the vendored rustls fork was bumped from privasys-v0.3.0 to privasys-v0.7.0 accordingly. Deterministic (cached-quote) mode cannot channel-bind and is fully verified in the certificate-verifier callback, so it is unaffected by this issue.

DescriptionCVE.org
Enclave OS Mini is a Rust-based runtime for confidential applications inside Intel SGX enclaves. Prior to wasm-v0.40.0, the SGX runtime's RA-TLS challenge certificate path placed the certificate public-key hash and client nonce in quote ReportData but omitted a value bound to the active TLS session. An attacker who obtained an enclave TLS private key could relay a genuine quote onto another connection, causing a relying party to accept an attacker-terminated connection as the attested enclave. This issue is fixed in wasm-v0.40.0.

Executive ViewAI
PrivaSys Enclave OS Mini deployments running releases earlier than wasm-v0.40.0 carry a critical attestation bypass that allows an attacker who already holds a valid enclave RA-TLS private key to present an attacker-controlled TLS channel to relying parties as a genuine, hardware-attested enclave. Any internal service, partner integration, or data pipeline that treats RA-TLS attestation as proof of code integrity and channel authenticity can therefore be silently misled, so leadership should treat the trust anchors used for confidential-computing workloads as unverified until upgrades and key hygiene are confirmed. No vendor-released patch has been identified at time of analysis and no public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, but the requirement for a prior enclave key compromise means any past key exposure should be assumed to enable undetectable impersonation.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: disable challenge-response/RA-TLS relay attestation mode where operationally possible; enforce TLS-session channel binding in a custom or hardened attestation verifier so quotes are only accepted when they commit to the specific handshake; rotate and revoke enclave RA-TLS private keys and identities; require an independent out-of-band identity check where attestation is currently the sole trust signal; restrict access to enclave private keys to the minimum necessary; and segment enclave networks and monitor for replayed or relayed attestation quotes.
