| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to be an authenticated member of the same MongoDB Ops Manager organization or project (PR:L) and to access user-listing endpoints. The critical precondition (reflected as AT:P) is that the targeted victim must have an authenticator enrollment that is pending and not yet confirmed - the secret seed is only exposed during this unconfirmed enrollment window, so once the victim completes/confirms enrollment the exposure closes. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: valid same-tenant authentication is mandatory (no anonymous access), exploitation is confined to a transient enrollment timing window outside the attacker's direct control, and the issue is fixed in Ops Manager Server 8.0.27 (earlier versions affected). Impact is limited to disclosure of authentication material; there is no direct integrity or availability effect. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue rather than an urgent emergency. The vendor CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.0 (Medium), and the vector is internally consistent with the description: AV:N (exploited over the network via user-listing API/UI endpoints), AC:L (no attacker-side complexity), but AT:P - a required condition exists, namely that the victim's authenticator enrollment must be in a pending/unconfirmed state. Critically, PR:L confirms the attacker must already be an authenticated, low-privileged member of the same organization or project, so this is NOT a remote-unauthenticated flaw; it is an insider/tenant-isolation confidentiality break. Impact is VC:H (high confidentiality - disclosure of a secret authenticator enrollment seed) with VI:N/VA:N (no integrity or availability impact), matching CWE-201. There is no CISA KEV listing and no public exploit identified at time of analysis; no EPSS score, SSVC decision, or POC was supplied in the input, so exploitation-probability signals are simply absent rather than conflicting. The practical risk is bounded by two strong limiting factors - required authentication within the same tenant and a narrow timing window during an unconfirmed enrollment - which together make opportunistic mass exploitation unlikely, though a malicious or compromised co-tenant could realistically weaponize it to undermine another member's MFA. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A malicious or compromised low-privileged member of a MongoDB Ops Manager organization waits for (or coincides with) another member beginning authenticator (MFA/TOTP) enrollment. Before that member confirms enrollment, the attacker queries a user-listing endpoint that improperly includes the pending enrollment seed, capturing the victim's secret authenticator material and enabling them to generate valid one-time codes. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, and success depends on catching the victim's enrollment while it remains unconfirmed. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 09, 2026
An authenticated member of a MongoDB Ops Manager organization can retrieve another organization or project member's pending authenticator enrollment seed by querying user-listing endpoints while that victim's enrollment remains unconfirmed, exposing secret authentication material (CWE-201, information disclosure into sent data). Only Ops Manager Server deployments earlier than 8.0.27 are affected, and exploitation requires valid same-tenant credentials plus the narrow precondition that the victim has an enrollment in progress that has not yet been confirmed, so risk is real but moderate rather than urgent. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the issue is resolved in Ops Manager Server 8.0.27.
RemediationAI
Upgrade MongoDB Ops Manager Server to 8.0.27 or later, which is the vendor-released fix described in the release notes at https://www.mongodb.com/docs/ops-manager/current/release-notes/application/#ops-manager-server-8027; after upgrading, rotate or re-issue authenticator enrollments for any user whose enrollment was pending while a vulnerable version was running, since the previously generated seeds may have been disclosed. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, treat organization membership as a trust boundary: audit and minimize the set of members and project roles that can call user-listing endpoints, and restrict API/UI access to those endpoints to trusted administrators where the deployment topology allows it - the trade-off is reduced self-service user administration and heavier admin workload. Because exploitation depends on an unconfirmed enrollment window, you can also shorten the exposure window by ensuring enrollments are completed promptly, purging or expiring stale pending enrollments (so seeds are not left retrievable), and monitoring Ops Manager logs for user-listing requests made by one member around another member's enrollment period. Enforcing re-authentication of the affected member's authenticator (invalidating the potentially leaked seed) is a low-cost mitigation, but it briefly locks the user out until they re-enroll. None of these compensating controls eliminate the underlying leak; only the 8.0.27 upgrade does.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is an instance of CWE-201 (Insertion of Sensitive Information Into Sent Data) in MongoDB Ops Manager's user-listing endpoints: responses returned to one authenticated organization member include sensitive fields from other members' records, specifically the authenticator (TOTP-style) enrollment seed generated during multi-factor enrollment. Under normal design, the seed should be exposed only to the enrolling principal, but during the unconfirmed enrollment window the backend treats it as retrievable listing data. The CVSS 4.0 vector reflects the unusual precondition structure: network reachable (AV:N) and low privileges required (PR:L, i.e., any authenticated org/project member) with no user interaction (UI:N), but Attack Requirements are Present (AT:P) because the victim must have an unconfirmed enrollment pending at the moment of the request; impact is confined to high confidentiality loss (VC:H) with no integrity or availability effect. Note that AV:N with PR:L maps to the 3.1 assessment AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N - the AC:H component captures the timing dependence rather than any cryptographic weakness. There is no anonymous access path; the attacker must already be a trusted member of the same organization or project.

An authenticated Ops Manager organization member can retrieve another member's pending authenticator enrollment seed through user-listing endpoints while that member's enrollment is unconfirmed. This results in disclosure of secret authentication material to another member of the same organization or project.
