Server-side request forgery in OpenClaw before 2026.8.1 allows an attacker who can already drive the agent to make it reach loopback or private-network destinations through the browser wait --fn predicate function, bypassing the navigation-time SSRF checks that guard other browser actions. The prerequisite is meaningful: the assessed vector (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N) requires low-privilege access to the agent plus an existing or active browser session, so this is not exploitable by unauthenticated external users or against default deployments without agent access. There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and the issue is not listed in CISA KEV, and the vendor's own low score (5.3) is consistent with the limited confidentiality and integrity impact assessed here.
RemediationAI
Upgrade OpenClaw to 2026.8.1 or later, which is the release boundary at which the affected version range ends and the fix is delivered (vendor advisory: https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw/security/advisories/GHSA-4g58-43jr-6738, corroborated by https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/openclaw-before-2026.8.1-ssrf-via-browser-wait-predicates); patch availability from the vendor is confirmed. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, compensate by removing or gating the wait --fn predicate capability so predicates cannot be supplied against existing browser sessions - the trade-off is loss of flexible wait conditions and possible flakiness in existing automation scripts - and by tightening who may drive the agent, since exploitation requires prior low-privilege agent access (PR:L) and a live browser session, so restricting agent callers to trusted principals materially reduces exposure at the cost of limiting shared or multi-tenant agent use. Additionally enforce egress policy on the browser backend to deny loopback and private-range (RFC1918, link-local, and metadata service) destinations, accepting the side effect that legitimate local-development browser tests targeting localhost will fail until the predicate path is patched to reuse the standard navigation SSRF checks.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-918 (Server-Side Request Forgery): OpenClaw's browser automation layer applies SSRF validation when a browser action performs a navigation, but the wait --fn predicate path omits that validation entirely. Because wait --fn evaluates a caller-supplied function against an already-running browser session, request primitives issued from inside that predicate are not re-checked against the blocklist that normally prevents loopback and private-range destinations, so an attacker with agent access can pivot the browser backend into internal networks or the host's own loopback services. The affected component spans all OpenClaw releases prior to 2026.8.1 as reflected by the CPE wildcard cpe:2.3:a:openclaw:openclaw:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* and the ENISA EUVD range 'OpenClaw 0 < 2026.8.1' (EUVD-2026-87475). Discovery is credited to VulnCheck. Impact is bounded by scope-unchanged, low confidentiality and integrity effects with no availability impact, since the SSRF yields read/limited-write interaction with reachable internal endpoints rather than code execution.

Network-reachable but requires low-privilege agent access and an existing browser session (PR:L, no UI), yielding only limited internal reach - hence C:L/I:L and no availability impact.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
OpenClaw versions before 2026.8.1 contain a server-side request forgery vulnerability in browser wait predicates that allows attackers to bypass SSRF protections by reaching blocked destinations. Attackers can use the wait --fn function against an existing browser session to request loopback or private destinations without navigation checks applied to other browser actions.
