| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to control or compromise a video-asset provider that the OpenClaw host trusts and queries, so the CLI receives attacker-chosen URLs in provider responses; OpenClaw before 2026.8.1 fails to validate those returned video asset URLs. It further depends on the video-fetch code path being exercised (UI:P/UI:R - a user or agent action that triggers a video asset fetch) and on an internal/loopback service being reachable from the OpenClaw host to have any impact. Limiting factors: the attacker cannot directly reach OpenClaw (impact is mediated entirely through a trusted third-party provider), impact is confined to limited internal requests/disclosure (all impact metrics Low), and versions 2026.8.1+ are patched. |
| Impact | All signals point to a low-priority issue despite the network attack vector. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N) yields only 5.3 (medium), and every impact metric is Low - this is a bounded SSRF that lets a malicious/compromised upstream video provider steer the OpenClaw CLI into requests against loopback/private internal services, not a full read/write compromise. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit are provided, so exploitation status is: no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The critical precondition - the attacker must already control or have compromised a video-asset provider that the host trusts and queries - is a meaningful barrier that the vendor's AC:L/AT:N arguably understates; a realistic 3.1 modeling treats this as higher complexity. Net: a real defense-in-depth gap worth patching on the normal cycle, but not an urgent, widely-exploitable priority. No conflicting signals between sources; the main caveat is the unmodeled trust prerequisite on the provider side. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who controls or has compromised a video-asset provider that OpenClaw integrates with returns a crafted response containing a loopback or RFC1918 URL (e.g. http://169.254.169.254/ or http://127.0.0.1:port). When a user triggers a video fetch, the CLI dereferences the attacker-supplied URL without validation, issuing a server-side request to an internal service reachable from the OpenClaw host and returning limited response data. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 26, 2026
Server-side request forgery in OpenClaw before 2026.8.1 allows a malicious or compromised video-asset provider to point the CLI at private or loopback URLs, causing requests to internal services reachable from the OpenClaw host. The attacker cannot reach OpenClaw directly: exploitation depends on the attacker controlling or compromising a provider the host already trusts and queries, on the video-fetch code path being exercised, and on an internal service being reachable, which is why our assessment rates exploitability as high-complexity with only low confidentiality impact. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and there is no KEV designation; the vendor has released a patch, and EPSS does not flag this as a high-likelihood target.
RemediationAI
Upgrade OpenClaw to 2026.8.1 or later, which is the vendor-released fix for this SSRF issue; per the advisory at https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw/security/advisories/GHSA-fvxr-9g24-x3hf the patch enforces validation of provider-returned video asset URLs, so no configuration change should be needed after upgrading. Until upgrading, apply compensating controls that reduce the blast radius of a provider-controlled URL: restrict outbound egress from the OpenClaw host with a firewall or network policy that denies RFC1918, loopback, and link-local destinations (including the 169.254.169.254 metadata endpoint) - the trade-off is that legitimate providers hosted internally will also break - and, if the configuration permits, disable automated video asset fetching or require an allowlist of trusted provider domains, accepting reduced functionality in exchange for removing the request primitive. Monitoring outbound connections from OpenClaw hosts to private address space can detect exploitation attempts while remediation is pending.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-918 Server-Side Request Forgery: OpenClaw's video-asset handling trusts URLs returned in provider responses without validating them against a safe-destination policy, so a response containing a loopback or RFC1918 address is fetched by the CLI with the host's network position. This is a classic 'trusted third-party as SSRF pivot' pattern - the vulnerable component performs outbound HTTP on attacker-influenced data, giving the attacker a blind request primitive against services only the OpenClaw host can see (localhost admin panels, cloud metadata endpoints, internal APIs). The CPE cpe:2.3:a:openclaw:openclaw:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms all pre-2026.8.1 builds are in scope, matching EUVD-2026-87474's range of OpenClaw 0 to <2026.8.1. Both the vendor v4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P) and our CVSS 3.1 assessment (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R) agree the attacker is unauthenticated and that a user or agent action must trigger the fetch; we score AC:H because the attacker must first control or compromise a trusted provider and depends on an internal service being reachable, whereas the vendor treats the preconditions as network-complexity-neutral.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
OpenClaw versions before 2026.8.1 fail to validate video asset URLs returned by providers, allowing server-side requests to private destinations. A malicious or compromised provider can return private or loopback URLs to cause the CLI to make requests to internal services accessible from the OpenClaw host.
