Network OAuth2 login (AV:N); attacker needs a valid Vend account (PR:L) and an uncontrolled cross-shop numeric-ID collision (AC:H); full account takeover yields C:H/I:H, no availability impact.

Python Social Auth is a social authentication/registration mechanism. Prior to version 5.0.0, the Vend OAuth2 backend used only the numeric Vend user_id as the social-auth UID. When multiple Vend shops authenticate through the same application, users from different shops with the same internal Vend user ID could collide in the social-auth association table. A user from one shop could then be authenticated as the local account previously associated with the same numeric user ID from another shop. The issue affects applications using the Vend OAuth2 backend with more than one Vend shop. Version 5.0.0 patches the issue.
AnalysisAI
Account impersonation in Python Social Auth (social-core) before version 5.0.0 allows an authenticated Vend user from one shop to be authenticated as a pre-existing local account that was linked to a user from a different shop sharing the same numeric Vend user_id. Only applications that use the Vend OAuth2 backend and authenticate users from more than one Vend shop are affected; the numeric-ID collision is not attacker-controlled and may be uncommon, but successful exploitation yields full compromise of the colliding local account (CVSS 6.8, AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N) with no victim interaction required. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the target application to use the Vend OAuth2 backend of python-social-auth AND to authenticate users from more than one Vend shop through the same application instance. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine but conditional identity-collision flaw (CWE-289) rated CVSS 6.8 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade python-social-auth/social-core to 5.0.0, which scopes the Vend social-auth UID so identities from different shops cannot collide (Vendor-released patch: 5.0.0; advisory GHSA-fp7w-m676-w7gc at https://github.com/python-social-auth/social-core/security/advisories/GHSA-fp7w-m676-w7gc). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
