openEQUELLA before 2026.1.0 contains an authenticated remote code execution vulnerability that allows any authenticated non-guest user to execute arbitrary code by exploiting Java deserialization in the HTTP invoker endpoint at /invoker/*. Attackers can bypass the class-name denylist enforced by PluginAwareObjectInputStream by nesting a serialized payload inside a java.security.SignedObject, causing the inner stream to be deserialized by a separate ObjectInputStream that does not apply the denylist, ultimately reaching a JNDI sink and enabling code execution.

AnalysisAI
Authenticated remote code execution in openEQUELLA releases before 2026.1.0 lets any logged-in non-guest user execute arbitrary code on the server by sending a crafted serialized Java object to the HTTP invoker endpoint at /invoker/*. The flaw is a denylist bypass: the class-name filter in PluginAwareObjectInputStream is evaded by wrapping a malicious payload inside a java.security.SignedObject, whose inner stream is handled by a separate ObjectInputStream that never applies the denylist, ultimately routing into a JNDI lookup sink. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires an authenticated non-guest openEQUELLA user account (PR:L) with network access to the /invoker/* HTTP invoker endpoint - no additional privilege, admin role, or user interaction is needed. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine high-priority vulnerability, not a paper tiger. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to openEQUELLA 2026.1.0, the vendor-released patch that resolves this issue as part of its security hardening work, following the release page at https://github.com/openequella/openEQUELLA/releases/tag/2026.1.0 and the VulnCheck advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/openequella-authenticated-rce-via-java-deserialization-in-http-invoker. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, identify every openEQUELLA instance running a release before 2026.1.0 and determine which of them expose the HTTP invoker endpoint (/invoker/*) outside trusted networks; block or allowlist that path at the reverse proxy or WAF, disable self-registration, and tighten SSO/LDAP auto-provisioning so a non-guest low-privilege account cannot be obtained on demand. …
