Network-reachable and unauthenticated (AV:N/PR:N), but reliable side-channel extraction needs many averaged measurements against timing noise (AC:H); only username existence leaks (C:L, I/A:N).

DescriptionCVE.org

Tinyauth is an authentication and authorization server. Prior to 5.1.0, Tinyauth exposes a remotely observable timing difference between authentication attempts for existing and nonexistent local usernames. internal/controller/user_controller.go loginHandler and internal/middleware/context_middleware.go basicAuth return quickly after internal/service/auth_service.go reports a missing user, while an existing user causes bcrypt password verification work. Repeated measurements can therefore disclose valid usernames and support targeted credential attacks. This issue is fixed in version 5.1.0.

AnalysisAI

Username enumeration is possible against Tinyauth instances running versions before 5.1.0 because the local-user login handler and the HTTP basic-auth middleware return as soon as an account is reported missing, while an existing account triggers a comparatively slow bcrypt password verification, leaving a remotely measurable timing discrepancy (CWE-208). Unauthenticated attackers with network reach to the authentication endpoints can take repeated latency measurements and statistically distinguish valid local usernames from invalid ones; the independent assessment rates this CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, so the outcome is limited to disclosure of valid usernames with no direct password, session, or data compromise, and exploitation is constrained by network/server jitter requiring many samples. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires a network-reachable Tinyauth instance (version prior to 5.1.0) that uses LOCAL username/password authentication - the flaw lives in the local-user login path (loginHandler) and HTTP basic-auth middleware (basicAuth), where a missing user returns before bcrypt runs. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine but modest-severity information-disclosure flaw (CWE-208, observable timing discrepancy) rather than a high-impact break. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Tinyauth 5.1.0 (https://github.com/tinyauthapp/tinyauth/releases/tag/v5.1.0), which precomputes a dummy bcrypt hash and calls DummyPasswordCheck on the missing-user path in both loginHandler and basicAuth via PR 1004 / commit c22925c2fba981875d0a2b09dd3ee41c0ae4c310, per advisory GHSA-456h-ww26-f758. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
