Remote unauthenticated packet with many User Properties needs no special condition (AC:L, PR:N); impact is transient recoverable CPU-exhaustion so A:L only, no C/I.

DescriptionCVE.org

NanoMQ is an MQTT broker. Prior to 0.24.14, NanoMQ's MQTT v5 property decoder in nng/src/supplemental/mqtt/mqtt_codec.c uses property_append() to walk the entire linked list for each property added by decode_buf_properties(). A remote unauthenticated client can supply a PUBLISH or SUBSCRIBE packet containing many User Properties, causing O(N²) linked-list insertion and CPU work that makes the broker unresponsive; repeated packets can sustain the denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 0.24.14.

AnalysisAI

NanoMQ MQTT brokers prior to 0.24.14 can be driven unresponsive by a remote unauthenticated client that sends MQTT v5 PUBLISH or SUBSCRIBE packets containing a large number of User Properties. Each property is inserted via property_append(), which re-walks the entire linked list, so a single packet with many properties forces quadratic (O(N²)) CPU work in the decoder; repeating the packet sustains the denial of service. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires the broker to accept MQTT v5 connections and process PUBLISH or SUBSCRIBE packets containing User Properties - this is default MQTT v5 protocol behavior, not a special configuration. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuinely low-priority issue despite being a remote unauthenticated flaw. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to NanoMQ 0.24.14 or later - the vendor-released patch version that resolves the quadratic property-insertion path and adds duplicate-property validation (advisory: https://github.com/nanomq/nanomq/security/advisories/GHSA-6mwg-445v-2qrv; release: https://github.com/nanomq/nanomq/releases/tag/0.24.14; upstream fix: https://github.com/nanomq/NanoNNG/pull/1508). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
