AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 15, 2026

Arista EOS switches can write plaintext private keys into log files when specialized, non-standard debugging trace levels are explicitly enabled on the device. Exploitation requires an attacker to already hold authenticated local administrative access to the device shell and to have those special debug trace levels turned on, so the practical exposure is primarily insider or post-compromise rather than remote. Arista discovered the flaw internally (SA-0153), states it is unaware of malicious exploitation in customer networks, and the issue is not listed in CISA KEV and no public exploit code has been identified.

DescriptionCVE.org

On affected platforms running Arista EOS, under certain circumstances plaintext private keys may be written in clear text to log files during operations when specialized non-standard debugging trace levels are explicitly enabled.

To exploit these vulnerabilities, a malicious actor must already possess authenticated local administrative access to the device shell, and specialized non-standard debugging trace levels must be explicitly enabled.

This issue was discovered internally by Arista, and the company is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability in customer networks.

What every action level means
Emergency Immediate action required. Criteria: CRITICAL + in CISA KEV (actively exploited) without patch, OR CRITICAL + EPSS > 30% without patch, OR CRITICAL + active threat signals without patch.
Act Now Prioritize within 24-48h. Criteria: in KEV with patch available, OR CRITICAL + public POC, OR HIGH + EPSS > 10%, OR CRITICAL + active threat, OR any CRITICAL severity.
This Week Schedule remediation this week. Criteria: HIGH severity (CVSS 7.0-8.9). Patch within normal change window.
This Month Plan within 30 days. Criteria: MEDIUM severity (CVSS 4.0-6.9), lower exploitation probability. Include in regular patch cycle.
Monitor Track and reassess. Criteria: LOW severity (CVSS 0.1-3.9), minimal exploitation risk. No immediate action needed.
