3DescriptionCVE.org
A security issue in MongoDB Server's diagnostic reporting interface allows an authenticated user with monitoring privileges to access insufficiently protected credentials from concurrent administrative operations. The same credentials are properly redacted in server log output, but the diagnostic interface omits equivalent redaction. Successful exploitation requires a valid authenticated session with monitoring-level permissions and results in exposure of cleartext credentials that could enable impersonation of other users, including privileged accounts.

AnalysisAI
MongoDB Server's diagnostic reporting interface exposes cleartext credentials from in-flight administrative operations to any authenticated user holding monitoring-level privileges, creating a lateral-movement and privilege-escalation path via impersonation of higher-privileged accounts. Affected versions span the 7.0.x branch (before 7.0.41), 8.0.x branch (before 8.0.30), and 8.3.x branch (before 8.3.9). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a valid authenticated session with at minimum monitoring-level permissions on the MongoDB instance (e.g., the built-in clusterMonitor role or any custom role granting the inprog privilege). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 base score of 7.1 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H) reflects network-accessible exploitation by a low-privilege authenticated user with no user interaction required and high confidentiality impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade MongoDB Server to a patched release: 7.0.41 or later for the 7.0.x branch, 8.0.30 or later for the 8.0.x branch, or 8.3.9 or later for the 8.3.x branch, per the vendor's JIRA ticket at https://jira.mongodb.org/browse/SERVER-131423. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all MongoDB Server instances running versions 7.0.x (prior to 7.0.41), 8.0.x (prior to 8.0.30), or 8.3.x (prior to 8.3.9) and audit current monitoring-level privilege assignments to determine exposure scope. …
