DescriptionNVD

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, an unauthenticated user could cause an authenticated user to run arbitrary Search Processing Language (SPL) searches on their behalf through the Event Type Builder. This could expose all relevant data and stored credentials. The vulnerability is possible when the Event Type Builder accepts cross-site request input and retains SPL-affecting values while building sample event searches. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the affected user by tricking them into initiating a request within their browser. The unauthenticated user should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. For more information see Automatically find and build event types (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/manage-knowledge-objects/knowledge-management-manual/9.0/event-types/automatically-find-and-build-event-types) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

Cross-site request forgery combined with SPL injection in Splunk Enterprise's Event Type Builder allows an unauthenticated attacker to cause an authenticated user to execute arbitrary Search Processing Language queries under the victim's session context. Affected release branches span versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, covering multiple concurrent support tracks. …

Attack ChainAIDerived

Hypothetical attack flow derived from CVE metadata

Access
Identify authenticated Splunk administrator as target
Delivery
Craft malicious page embedding CSRF payload for Event Type Builder
Exploit
Phish victim into visiting attacker-controlled page
Execution
Victim browser submits cross-site request with attacker-controlled SPL values
Persist
Splunk executes arbitrary SPL query under victim's session
Impact
Attacker retrieves exposed data and stored credentials from query results

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires that the target is actively authenticated to a vulnerable Splunk Enterprise version (below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14) at the time of the attack. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 5.9 medium score accurately reflects the meaningful exploitation barriers: AC:H captures the dependency on a coordinated phishing campaign, and UI:R confirms no automated or mass-exploitation path exists. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker targeting a Splunk-using organization crafts a malicious web page containing a silent cross-origin HTTP request to the victim's Splunk instance, embedding attacker-controlled SPL values into the Event Type Builder parameters. The attacker sends a phishing email to a known Splunk administrator; when the victim opens the link while authenticated to Splunk, their browser automatically submits the cross-site request and Splunk executes the injected SPL search under the victim's full session permissions, potentially returning sensitive log data or stored Splunk credentials to an attacker-controlled endpoint. …
Remediation Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to the patched releases: 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14, depending on the deployed branch, as documented in SVD-2026-0801 at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
