DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user that holds a role with the rest_properties_get capability could read encrypted stored credentials through the Representational State Transfer (REST) API. Successful exploitation can expose relevant data protected by the stored credentials. The incorrect permission assignment is possible because the properties REST endpoint requires the rest_properties_get capability instead of the list_storage_passwords capability to read stored credentials. For more information see Define roles on the Splunk platform with capabilities (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/administer/manage-users-and-security/10.4/manage-splunk-platform-users-and-roles/define-roles-on-the-splunk-platform-with-capabilities) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

Splunk Enterprise incorrectly gates the properties REST endpoint on the rest_properties_get capability rather than the purpose-built list_storage_passwords capability, allowing any authenticated user with that role permission to read encrypted stored credentials via the REST API. Affected branches span four active release lines: 10.4.x below 10.4.2, 10.2.x below 10.2.6, 10.0.x below 10.0.9, and 9.4.x below 9.4.14 per EUVD-2026-63112. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires: (1) a valid authenticated Splunk Enterprise session - unauthenticated access is not possible per the PR:L CVSS vector; (2) the authenticated user's role must explicitly include the rest_properties_get capability - roles without this capability cannot reach the vulnerable endpoint; (3) network access to the Splunk REST API, typically on TCP port 8089. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N accurately represents the threat: network-accessible, no user interaction, low-complexity, but requiring authentication with a specific role capability. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An authenticated Splunk user - such as a low-privileged analyst, a service account used for monitoring integrations, or an insider threat - whose role includes rest_properties_get issues a standard GET request to the Splunk REST API properties endpoint without any additional privilege escalation. The response returns encrypted stored credentials (database passwords, API keys, integration tokens) that the user is not intended to access. …
Remediation Upgrade to the patched release for the installed branch: Splunk Enterprise 9.4.14, 10.0.9, 10.2.6, or 10.4.2, as confirmed by the vendor advisory at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
