DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, and Splunk Secure Gateway versions below 3.10.9, 3.9.23, and 3.8.70, a user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles could read sensitive Security Assertion Markup Language setup and instance settings information through Splunk Secure Gateway Representational State Transfer (REST) API endpoints. The vulnerability is possible because the affected Security Assertion Markup Language setup and instance settings REST API endpoints do not enforce authorization requirements before returning configuration information.

AnalysisAI

Information disclosure in Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Secure Gateway exposes sensitive SAML configuration and instance settings to any authenticated low-privilege user lacking the 'admin' or 'power' role. The Splunk Secure Gateway REST API endpoints responsible for returning SAML setup data fail to enforce authorization checks, allowing role-restricted users to retrieve IdP metadata, certificates, and SSO configuration they should not access. …

Impact
Leverage data to plan SSO or IdP-targeted attack

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires a valid Splunk user account that does NOT hold the 'admin' or 'power' role - the 'user' role or any equivalent low-privilege Splunk role is sufficient. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS base score of 4.3 accurately reflects limited real-world impact: attack complexity is low, but exploitation requires a valid Splunk account (PR:L), which meaningfully constrains the attacker pool to insiders or compromised credentials. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker with a low-privilege Splunk account - such as a read-only analyst or an account obtained through credential stuffing against the Splunk login - sends an HTTP GET request directly to an affected Splunk Secure Gateway REST API endpoint that returns SAML configuration data. Because no authorization check is performed, the endpoint returns SAML IdP metadata, entity identifiers, and certificate information in the response. …
Remediation Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14 for the respective active release branch, and upgrade Splunk Secure Gateway to 3.10.9, 3.9.23, or 3.8.70 as appropriate. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
