DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise Security versions below 8.6.1, a user who holds a Splunk Enterprise Security role that contains the mc_investigation_read capability could inject Search Processing Language (SPL) through Analyst Queue search filters, allowing for access to all relevant data and system integrity available to the scheduled searches that run for that user. The vulnerability is possible because the Analyst Queue search filter handling does not validate filter field names before the fields are included in SPL searches. For more information see Users and roles for Splunk Enterprise Security (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise-security-8/install/8.4/installation/users-and-roles-for-splunk-enterprise-security), Manage analyst workflows using the analyst queue in Splunk Enterprise Security (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise-security-8/administer/8.4/mission-control/manage-analyst-workflows-using-the-analyst-queue-in-splunk-enterprise-security), and Overview of Mission Control in Splunk Enterprise Security (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise-security-8/user-guide/8.5/mission-control/overview-of-mission-control-in-splunk-enterprise-security) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

SPL injection in Splunk Enterprise Security versions below 8.6.1 allows low-privileged authenticated users holding the mc_investigation_read capability to inject Search Processing Language through Analyst Queue search filter field names, gaining access to data and system integrity controls available to scheduled search contexts beyond their authorized scope. The root cause is absent validation of filter field names before inclusion in SPL queries - analogous to SQL injection but within Splunk's proprietary query language. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires a valid Splunk Enterprise Security account holding a role that includes the mc_investigation_read capability - this is not a default capability granted to all users and must be explicitly assigned. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N scores 8.1 High. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An authenticated Splunk ES analyst whose role includes mc_investigation_read crafts a malicious Analyst Queue search filter in which the filter field name contains injected SPL tokens. When the Analyst Queue processes the filter, the unsanitized field name is concatenated into a scheduled SPL search string. …
Remediation Upgrade to Splunk Enterprise Security 8.6.1 or later per the vendor advisory SVD-2026-0807 available at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0807. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
