DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk SOAR versions below 8.6.0, an unauthenticated user who can observe or alter network traffic between Splunk SOAR and a configured CyberArk Representational State Transfer (REST) server could access or modify all relevant data exchanged through that credential manager. The vulnerability is possible because the CyberArk REST client does not verify server certificates by default. The attack requires the attacker to have network-path interception capability between Splunk SOAR and the configured CyberArk REST server. For more information see Manage your organization's credentials with a password vault (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-soar/soar-cloud/administer-soar-cloud/configure-administration-settings-in-splunk-soar-cloud/manage-your-organizations-credentials-with-a-password-vault) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

Improper TLS certificate validation in Splunk SOAR's CyberArk REST client exposes all credential vault traffic to interception and tampering by a network-positioned attacker. Versions below 8.6.0 are affected when a CyberArk REST credential manager integration is configured; the client accepts any server certificate without verification, making TLS sessions transparent to a man-in-the-middle. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the attacker to hold an active network-path interception position between the Splunk SOAR instance and the CyberArk REST server - achievable via ARP poisoning on a shared LAN segment, BGP route injection, or compromise of an intermediary network device, but not from an arbitrary internet vantage point. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.4 (High) is well-calibrated: AV:N reflects that the attack traverses the network, AC:H captures the non-trivial prerequisite of achieving a man-in-the-middle position between Splunk SOAR and the CyberArk REST server, and C:H/I:H/A:N accurately reflects the high-value credential data exposed without any availability disruption. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker with access to the internal network segment shared by Splunk SOAR and the CyberArk REST server uses ARP spoofing or a compromised network device to position themselves in the traffic path. They terminate the TLS connection from Splunk SOAR using a self-signed certificate, which the CyberArk REST client accepts without error, then proxy requests to the real CyberArk server - decrypting and optionally modifying all credential vault responses in transit. …
Remediation Upgrade Splunk SOAR to version 8.6.0 or later, which resolves the certificate validation defect in the CyberArk REST client. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
