DescriptionCVE.org
Wagtail is an open source content management system built on Django. In versions prior to 7.0.8, 7.3.3 and 7.4.2, the Documents and Images chooser's chosen endpoint incorrectly listed items for which the user has not been granted choose permission. A user with access to the Wagtail admin could see the filename and name and URLs of documents and images in those collections. The vulnerability is not exploitable by an ordinary site visitor without access to the Wagtail admin. This issue has been fixed in versions 7.0.8, 7.3.3, and 7.4.2.
AnalysisAI
Wagtail's Documents and Images chooser endpoint leaks asset metadata - including filenames, display names, and URLs - to authenticated admin users who have been explicitly denied collection-level choose permissions. Versions prior to 7.0.8, 7.3.3, and 7.4.2 are affected across the 7.0, 7.3, and 7.4 release branches. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a valid, authenticated Wagtail admin account - the vulnerability is explicitly not accessible to ordinary site visitors without admin access. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, score 4.3) accurately characterizes this as a low-to-medium severity issue: it is network-reachable with no attack complexity, but requires authenticated admin access (PR:L), and the confidentiality impact is limited to asset metadata rather than file content. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An authenticated Wagtail admin editor who has been restricted from a sensitive 'HR Documents' collection opens the Documents chooser widget while editing a page. By querying the 'chosen' endpoint - a normal part of the chooser UI flow - they receive a listing of filenames, display names, and direct URLs for documents in the restricted collection. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade Wagtail to one of the patched releases confirmed by the vendor advisory: 7.0.8 (for 7.0.x deployments), 7.3.3 (for 7.3.x deployments), or 7.4.2 (for 7.4.x deployments), as detailed at https://github.com/wagtail/wagtail/security/advisories/GHSA-h54r-xq46-qwqm. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
