MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated LaraDashboard account (versions 1.4.0 up to but not including 1.4.9) holding the read-only email_template.view permission, OR an MCP token that was minted while that permission was held - token abilities are snapshotted at mint time (McpTokenService), so a token can retain mcp:email.send even after permissions change. The MCP interface and its send-email tool must be deployed and network-reachable, since the attacker mints a token and POSTs to /mcp/send-email. The limiting factors are: a valid low-privilege authenticated session or pre-minted token is mandatory (this is NOT remote-unauthenticated), the MCP tooling must be enabled, and only pre-1.4.9 releases are vulnerable; after the fix the tool requires email_template.edit. |
| Impact | The official CVSS 4.0 base is 5.3 (medium): AV:N/AC:L/AT:N means a network-reachable MCP endpoint with low attack complexity and no special attack requirements, but PR:L requires an authenticated low-privilege account (the read-only email_template.view permission) and UI:N means no victim interaction. Impact is confined to integrity of outbound mail (VI:L) with VC:N and VA:N - no data disclosure or service disruption. This is not in CISA KEV, so there is no confirmed active exploitation, and no EPSS probability was supplied, so widespread-exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified from the input. A public PoC reference (a bash relay script) is embedded in the GHSA advisory, but it is not verified as working exploit code. The vuln.today decision label is this_month, consistent with a patch-on-normal-cycle priority rather than an emergency. Signal conflict worth noting: the GHSA advisory proposes a markedly higher vector (S:C/C:N/I:H/A:L) than the assigned CVSS 4.0 (VI:L/SC:N), reflecting a dispute over whether impersonated outbound email constitutes a scope change and high integrity impact - verify severity expectations against the vendor advisory. Overall this is a genuine authorization flaw but a moderate one: the authenticated-account prerequisite and integrity-only impact make it a real priority to patch, not a drop-everything emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged or compromised LaraDashboard account holding only the read-only email_template.view permission mints an MCP token with the mcp:email.send ability and POSTs to /mcp/send-email with an attacker-chosen recipient, subject, and raw HTML body, delivering credential-phishing or spam from the organization's own mailer and abusing its domain reputation. Because the body is rendered raw (unsanitized HTML) in the recipient's mail client, phishing payloads display as intended. A public PoC bash script is published in the GHSA advisory, though it is not verified as working exploit code; the attack is network-borne with low complexity but requires an authenticated session/token. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Nov 02, 2026
Improper authorization in LaraDashboard 1.4.0 through 1.4.8 lets an authenticated user holding only the read-only email_template.view permission send arbitrary HTML email through the MCP send-email tool. Authenticated low-privilege users (or holders of an MCP token minted while that permission was present) can mint a token and POST attacker-chosen sender, recipient, subject and raw HTML body to /mcp/send-email, turning the application's mailer into a phishing or spam relay that abuses the site's sending reputation; the assessed impact is a limited integrity violation, with no confidentiality or availability impact. The vendor fixed the permission check in v1.4.9 (the tool now requires email_template.edit), and the GHSA includes a public proof-of-concept script that has not been independently verified as working exploit code; no confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV) or public exploit tooling is indicated at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to LaraDashboard v1.4.9 (released 2026-11-02 per the changelog, https://github.com/laradashboard/laradashboard/releases/tag/v1.4.9), which changes the send-email tool gate from email_template.view to email_template.edit (commit https://github.com/laradashboard/laradashboard/commit/5955d725683b1e63af8c38a149211d6151465aed) so that read-only template viewers can no longer send mail; the same release also bundles unrelated fixes for LaraBuilder stored XSS and social-login account linking, so schedule the full upgrade rather than a partial cherry-pick. Because the fix merely raises the required permission, still treat email_template.edit as a mail-sending capability and grant it sparingly. Where upgrading is not immediately possible, revoke and re-mint all MCP tokens and remove email_template.view from roles that should not send email (side effect: those users lose template preview access), or disable/unroute the MCP send-email tool and restrict /mcp and /api/mcp/tokens to trusted networks or administrator IPs (side effect: AI/agent integrations and legitimate automation stop working). Rotate tokens after any role or permission change, since abilities are snapshotted at mint time and are not re-derived per call.

Technical ContextAI · show details
LaraDashboard is a Laravel (PHP) admin/dashboard application that ships an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server interface exposing tools to AI agents and API clients. Each tool declares its gate through the McpToolMeta attribute and an authorizeMcpAbility() call; for SendEmailTool both were set to the read-only permission email_template.view alongside the ability mcp:email.send (app/Mcp/Tools/SendEmailTool.php). Two design weaknesses compound this: McpTokenService snapshots a user's abilities at token mint time and AuthenticateMcpAgent only validates the coarse mcp:access bit, so per-tool abilities come from a stale snapshot and old tokens can silently widen when permissions are later granted, without any rotation on role change. The custom-html blade renders the submitted body with raw output ({!! $content !!}), so the recipient receives attacker-authored markup. The root cause class is CWE-863 (incorrect authorization) - a write-capable action gated by a read-only permission - with the advisory additionally citing CWE-348 for sending from an origin the token holder did not intend. The official CVSS 4.0 base is 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N), assessed under CVSS 3.1 as AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N; the GHSA author's own S:C/I:H/A:L vector is more severe than the published and independently assessed scoring and should not be read as the authoritative impact. The upstream fix commit 5955d725683b1e63af8c38a149211d6151465aed changes both the attribute metadata and the runtime check from email_template.view to email_template.edit.

DescriptionCVE.org
LaraDashboard 1.4.0 before 1.4.9 contains an improper authorization vulnerability that allows authenticated users with read-only email_template.view permission to send arbitrary emails via the MCP send-email tool. Attackers can mint an MCP token and call send-email with any recipient, subject, and raw HTML body to deliver phishing or spam from the site's mailer.
