MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Impact The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that LaraDashboard's advanced email validation be configured and enabled (the domain-check / AbstractAPI verification integration, gated in the code by settings such as auth_registration_email_domain_check_enabled), and that these advanced checks be wired into the unauthenticated ForgotPasswordRequest and ResetPasswordRequest paths as they are in 1.4.2-1.4.7. If advanced email validation / the AbstractAPI integration is not configured, there is no paid quota to exhaust and impact is limited to DNS lookups. The patch removes advanced validation from these recovery endpoints (includeAdvancedEmailValidation: false), so only versions 1.4.2 up to but not including 1.4.8 are affected. No authentication or user interaction is needed, and default reachability of the public forgot-password/reset-password forms is the only access prerequisite. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity resource-exhaustion / abuse-of-functionality issue (CWE-770), not a high-urgency flaw despite the network-facing, unauthenticated vector. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) confirms remote, low-complexity, unauthenticated reachability, but the only impact metric set is VA:L - a low availability impact - with no confidentiality or integrity impact (VC:N/VI:N), which is consistent with the real-world effect: exhausting a paid AbstractAPI verification quota and triggering DNS lookups rather than compromising data or code. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided, so exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified from the input; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The secondary 'fail-open' consequence - once quota is exhausted, email validation silently passes for ALL public forms - is a real security-control-degradation concern that the raw CVSS score arguably under-weights, since it weakens anti-abuse/disposable-domain protections site-wide; teams should weigh that logic-level impact alongside the modest CVSS number. Overall this is a legitimate hardening/availability fix worth patching, but it is a 'medium CVSS, limited blast radius' issue rather than a critical priority, and its urgency is further reduced by the niche deployment footprint of the affected product. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker repeatedly submits forged or arbitrary email addresses to LaraDashboard's public forgot-password and reset-password endpoints, each request triggering a billable AbstractAPI verification call and a DNS lookup. Once the paid verification quota is depleted, the advanced email validation fails open across all public forms, degrading anti-abuse controls, while the DNS lookups also let the attacker probe domain resolution. No public exploit is identified at time of analysis, but the attack requires only a simple scripted loop of HTTP POST requests. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 04, 2026
Unauthenticated attackers can exhaust LaraDashboard's paid email-verification quota through the public forgot-password and reset-password endpoints, causing advanced email validation to fail open across all public forms. Affected releases are 1.4.2 up to but not including 1.4.8, where the ForgotPasswordRequest and ResetPasswordRequest classes apply advanced DNS and AbstractAPI-based checks to arbitrary submitted addresses. Exploitation requires PR:N per the provided CVSS 4.0 vector, meaning no authentication is needed, and no public exploit code or CISA KEV confirmation is present; impact is a low-availability resource-exhaustion condition rather than code execution or data compromise.
RemediationAI
Upgrade LaraDashboard to version 1.4.8, which removes advanced email validation from the password-recovery paths (the patch sets includeAdvancedEmailValidation: false in ForgotPasswordRequest.php and ResetPasswordRequest.php) while preserving it on registration flows; the vendor patch is available via https://github.com/laradashboard/laradashboard/pull/339 and commit https://github.com/laradashboard/laradashboard/commit/8babc803066a74c628fa012928fb1e6591411eba. If immediate upgrade is not possible, disable the advanced email-validation / AbstractAPI integration for the affected recovery endpoints by turning off the auth_registration_email_domain_check_enabled setting, accepting that disposable-domain and DNS checks on those routes are lost, and apply rate limiting (e.g. Laravel's throttle middleware) to the public forgot-password and reset-password routes to slow quota consumption - noting that throttling reduces but does not eliminate quota exhaustion. Monitor AbstractAPI usage and DNS query volume for anomalies, and add a honeypot or CAPTCHA on public forms as a secondary deterrent, understanding these are compensating controls rather than substitutes for the patch.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-770 (Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling): LaraDashboard wires its advanced email-validation pipeline - backed by DNS resolution checks in EmailDomainCheckService and paid third-party AbstractAPI lookups in EmailVerificationService - into unauthenticated password-recovery routes. When configured (gated by settings such as auth_registration_email_domain_check_enabled), each forgot-password or reset-password submission triggers outbound DNS queries and a billable AbstractAPI verification call before the request is accepted or rejected. Because there is no per-IP or per-account throttling on these public endpoints, an attacker can send arbitrary addresses to deplete the API quota; once the quota is gone, the verification control falls back to allowing requests, effectively disabling the same validation on registration and other public forms. The exposed code paths are ForgotPasswordRequest.php (lines 22-27), ResetPasswordRequest.php (lines 23-30), EmailVerificationService.php (lines 95-114) and EmailDomainCheckService.php (line 128) as shipped in the v1.4.2 tag. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:laradashboard:laradashboard:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the affected component is the LaraDashboard application itself.

DescriptionCVE.org
LaraDashboard 1.4.2 before 1.4.8 applies advanced email validation to unauthenticated forgot-password and reset-password requests, triggering DNS lookups and paid AbstractAPI verification calls. Unauthenticated attackers can submit arbitrary addresses to exhaust the verification quota, making validation fail open for all public forms, and probe domain resolution.
