Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated n8n member account with permission to create and run workflows (PR:L, confirmed by CVSS vector), and the instance must use the Data Tables module. The attacker creates a workflow whose client-supplied ID is the literal string '__proto__', which makes the cached owner-project check match every project and grants cross-project Data Table row access. Limiting factors: exploitation is not possible for fully unauthenticated users, is irrelevant on single-trusted-user instances, and is neutralized by disabling the Data Tables module; affected versions are n8n before 2.43.5 and 2.44.x before 2.44.1.

Impact

This is a genuine priority, not an inflated-CVSS artifact. The CVSS 4.0 base score of 8.7 (High) is driven by a fully network-reachable attack path (AV:N), low complexity (AC:L), no attack requirements (AT:N), and no user interaction (UI:N), with high confidentiality and integrity impact (VC:H/VI:H) plus limited availability impact (VA:L) from the ability to delete Data Table rows. The one meaningful brake is PR:L - exploitation requires an authenticated member who can create and run workflows, so this is an insider / compromised-account / shared-tenant risk rather than a pre-auth internet-facing break. EPSS is not supplied and the issue is not on CISA KEV, so there is no quantitative exploitation-probability signal and no confirmation of active exploitation; the vuln.today decision label is 'this_week', consistent with a serious but non-emergency flaw. The mechanism is well understood and documented by the vendor (CWE-1321 prototype pollution via a client-supplied workflow ID of __proto__ corrupting the Data Table owner-project check), which lowers the research barrier for a working exploit even though none is confirmed public. Net: on multi-tenant or multi-user n8n instances this warrants prompt patching; on single-trusted-user deployments the PR:L requirement materially reduces real-world urgency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated n8n member on a shared instance creates a workflow and supplies the crafted ID '__proto__', which pollutes the in-memory owner-project cache so the Data Table project authorization check matches every project. The member then runs workflow operations to list, read, modify, and delete Data Table rows belonging to projects they should have no access to. No public working exploit is confirmed, but the vendor advisory describes the trigger precisely.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

n8n versions before 2.43.5 and 2.44.x before 2.44.1 allow an authenticated member who can create and run workflows to bypass project boundaries and list, read, modify, and delete Data Table rows in all projects by supplying a crafted workflow ID such as __proto__. The flaw is a prototype-pollution-style authorization bypass in the in-memory workflow owner-project cache, rated 8.7 with PR:L in the CVSS vector, so exploitation requires a member account and the Data Tables module. Vendor fixes are available in 2.43.5 and 2.44.1; no public exploit was identified at time of analysis, and KEV status was not provided.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to n8n 2.44.1 or 2.43.5 or later. If upgrading is not immediately possible, the vendor advisory lists temporary mitigations: restrict n8n instance access to fully trusted users only, audit existing workflows for any whose stored ID is __proto__ and remove them, and disable the Data Tables module if it is not required. The vendor states these workarounds do not fully remediate the risk and should only be used as short-term measures. Advisory: https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/security/advisories/GHSA-wvjj-qg37-pv73.

Technical ContextAI · show details

n8n is a Node.js workflow automation platform distributed as the npm package npm/n8n. The advisory describes CWE-1321 prototype pollution affecting the workflow-to-owner-project cache: n8n accepts a client-supplied workflow ID when a workflow is created and caches each workflow's owner project in memory keyed by that ID. A crafted ID such as __proto__ makes the cached owner-project lookup resolve to an invalid project value, and the Data Table project check built from it matches every project. This is an authorization-check failure rather than memory corruption, and the advisory states the result is cross-project Data Table row access for an authenticated member who can create and run workflows. The trigger mechanism is described in the advisory; the supplied sources do not include working exploit code.

DescriptionCVE.org

n8n before 2.43.5 and 2.44.x before 2.44.1 accepts a client-supplied workflow ID and caches each workflow's owner project in memory by that ID, so a crafted ID such as __proto__ makes the Data Table project check match every project. An authenticated member who can create and run workflows can list, read, modify, and delete Data Table rows in all projects of the instance.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

A high-severity authorization bypass in n8n's Data Tables module allows any authenticated workflow creator to access, alter, or delete data across all projects, undermining project isolation. This could lead to unauthorized data exposure, integrity loss, and compliance violations, affecting all n8n users with member-level access and the sensitive data stored in Data Tables.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Apply vendor patch. If immediate patching is not possible, restrict the ability of member accounts to create and run workflows, enable enhanced monitoring of Data Table access, and enforce least-privilege principles.
