Vulnerability Assessment

Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated token-based API user (PR:L - a valid pretix API token) and is specific to the data-shredding workflow, where generated files are not correctly bound to the authenticating identity because all token-based API users share one session token. Exploitation is sharply limited by several factors: the files are referenced only by randomly generated UUIDs, they exist for only about one day before deletion, the CVSS vector indicates high attack complexity (AC:H) and a present attack requirement (AT:P), and the vendor assesses real-world risk as virtually nil. This is a defense-in-depth regression of a protection intended in 2026.7.1 rather than a directly weaponizable data-exposure path.

Impact

This is a genuinely low-priority issue, and the signals are consistent rather than conflicting. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 base score is 2.3 (Low) with vector AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N and only Low confidentiality/integrity impacts; the PR:L metric means a valid API token is required, so this is an authenticated weakness, not an unauthenticated one. The SSVC/priority decision label is 'monitor', the lowest actionable tier, and there is no CISA KEV listing, no EPSS score, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vendor itself states there is 'virtually no risk' because the affected files are named by randomly generated UUIDs and are deleted after one day; the AC:H and AT:P metrics reinforce that triggering the flaw is not straightforward or attacker-controlled on demand. The only reason this was assigned a CVE at all is that it defeats a defense-in-depth control (binding shredding files to the authenticating identity) that was supposed to have been fixed in 2026.7.1. No EPSS data was provided, so widespread-exploitation probability cannot be quantified, but every other signal points the same way: this is a low-severity hardening regression, not an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A party holding a valid pretix API token performs a data-shredding operation; because all token-based API users share the same session token, the files produced are not correctly bound to the authenticating identity, so another token-based API user could in principle retrieve them. Realistically the attacker would also need to know the randomly generated UUID referencing the file within its one-day lifetime, and no public exploit code exists; the exact trigger mechanics beyond the shared-token binding are not detailed in the available sources.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

The data-shredding workflow in pretix fails to bind generated files to the identity that authenticated the request, because every token-based API user is issued the same session token, so the per-user protection added in 2026.7.1 does not actually take effect. Only authenticated holders of a valid pretix API token can reach the affected code path (CVSS 4.0 PR:L, AC:H, AT:P), and exposure is sharply constrained: shredded files are addressable only through randomly generated UUIDs and are retained for roughly one day before deletion. The vendor rates real-world risk as virtually nil, the issue scores 2.3, no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and the flaw is best characterized as a defense-in-depth regression rather than a directly exploitable data-exposure path. A vendor-released patch (2026.8.1) is available.

RemediationAI

Upgrade pretix to 2026.8.1, the vendor-released patch, following the release announcement at https://pretix.eu/about/en/blog/20261028-release-2026-8-1/; because the flaw is a missed portion of the 2026.7.1 fix, systems that were previously patched to 2026.7.x still require this update. No separate vendor-documented workaround is provided in the available sources, and the vendor notes that the release additionally hardens related code areas, so the update should be applied even where the shredding workflow is thought to be unused. As a stopgap while scheduling the upgrade, reducing the population of long-lived token-based API credentials limits the number of identities that collapse onto the shared session token, at the cost of breaking existing integrations that depend on those tokens, and restricting access to the shredding functionality to trusted administrative staff narrows the set of callers able to enter the affected workflow. Neither measure restores the per-identity file binding, which only the 2026.8.1 code provides.

Affected ProductsAI

pretix deployments exposing the token-based API and using the data-shredding workflow are affected, including versions that already contained the incomplete 2026.7.1 fix for the earlier, similar binding issue. No CPE strings were provided in the source data, so exact version ranges below 2026.8.1 are not enumerated; the fixed release is 2026.8.1, documented in the vendor advisory at https://pretix.eu/about/en/blog/20261028-release-2026-8-1/. EUVD identifier EUVD-2026-111999 tracks the same issue. Operators should confirm their running pretix version against the 2026.8.1 release notes to determine whether they are exposed.

Technical ContextAI · show details

pretix implements a token-based API in which session state is represented by a server-side session token; the shredding workflow writes temporary files during data deletion and is supposed to bind those files to the authentication method and principal that triggered the job. That binding logic was introduced to fix a comparable issue in release 2026.7.1, but the fix was incomplete and the same session token is reused across all token-based API users, so the binding mechanism resolves to a shared identity instead of the individual caller and provides no effective isolation. No CWE mapping is supplied by the source data, so the root-cause class is not formally classified; the trigger conditions beyond the shredding workflow and token authentication are not described in the available sources. Practical exploitation is further gated by high attack complexity (AC:H) and a present attack requirement (AT:P) in the CVSS 4.0 vector, and by the fact that file names are random UUIDs with an approximately one-day lifetime, which the vendor cites as the reason actual risk is negligible. The 2026.8.1 release also hardens several related code areas beyond the specific binding defect.

DescriptionCVE.org

The mechanism binding files generated during a shredding process to the authentication method is not working correctly and the same session token is used for all token-based API users. This is similar to an issue fixed in 2026.7.1 but was missed while creating the fix. Since the files are referred to by randomly generated UUIDs and only exist for a day, there is virtually no risk, but it renders the added protection mechanism useless. As part of the fix, we have also improved hardening of some other related code areas.
