Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires reaching the A2A.AspNetCore JSON-RPC endpoint handled by A2AJsonRpcProcessor.ProcessRequestAsync and sending a body that fails JSON parsing; the vulnerable code path is the System.Text.Json exception handler that embeds ex.Message (JSON paths, line/byte positions, exception type and library names) in the -32700 ParseError response returned to the client. Affected: a2a-dotnet up to and including 1.0.0-preview2. Limiting factors: the disclosed data is internal parser/diagnostic metadata only - no credentials, user data, integrity or availability impact - and the issue is fully resolved by upgrading to 1.0.0-preview3, which the vendor states is sufficient; whether any authentication gates the endpoint before the parse step is not established by the available sources.

Impact

This is a genuine but low-severity information-disclosure issue (CWE-209), and the signals agree on that. The VulDB-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) with VC:L and no integrity or availability impact yields 5.3 (Medium), and the vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' rather than act_now/emergency - consistent with a flaw that leaks internal parser metadata, not credentials or system control. No KEV listing and no EPSS score are present in the input, and no public exploit is referenced; exploitation is trivially easy in mechanical terms (send malformed JSON) but the payoff is limited to System.Text.Json error internals. One signal to flag: the input vector sets PR:L (authenticated), yet the confirmed trigger is a JSON parse failure (see patch diff), which typically occurs before any application-level authentication - I independently assess PR:N and note the discrepancy. This is a hygiene/defense-in-depth fix to prioritize on a normal patch cycle, not an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A remote attacker sends a malformed JSON body (e.g. '{invalid json' or truncated JSON-RPC) to the a2a-dotnet ASP.NET Core JSON-RPC endpoint. The server catches the System.Text.Json exception and returns its raw ex.Message inside the JSON-RPC ParseError (-32700) response, disclosing parser details such as JSON paths, line and byte positions, exception type and library names that aid reconnaissance. No public exploit code is referenced; the attack requires only the ability to POST to the endpoint, so attack complexity is low.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 26, 2026

Information exposure through error messages in the .NET A2A SDK (a2aproject a2a-dotnet) up to and including 1.0.0-preview2 causes the JSON-RPC endpoint to echo raw System.Text.Json parser output back to the caller. When a request body fails parsing, A2AJsonRpcProcessor.ProcessRequestAsync returns the -32700 ParseError response containing ex.Message, which discloses JSON paths, line and byte positions, exception type names and library details rather than a generic error. The exposure is diagnostic metadata only - no credentials or user data are implicated, and the independently assessed impact is low (CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N); no public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and upgrading to 1.0.0-preview3 resolves the issue.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade a2a-dotnet to version 1.0.0-preview3, which replaces the echoed System.Text.Json exception message with a generic -32700 parse error while keeping the raw exception details in an internal activity event; the release is published at https://github.com/a2aproject/a2a-dotnet/releases/tag/v1.0.0-preview3 and the change is contained in PR https://github.com/a2aproject/a2a-dotnet/pull/452 (commit ccbd12b6108a6a8f0fd5d8b4a9ece3c8a94ba1e4), so pinning or cherry-picking that commit on an internal fork achieves the same result. The available sources describe updating as the resolution and do not document separate configuration workarounds; where upgrading cannot be scheduled immediately, review whether the A2A JSON-RPC endpoint must be reachable by untrusted clients and, if it can be fronted by a gateway that normalizes or suppresses -32700 error bodies, that reduces the leaked detail at the cost of extra infrastructure and possible client-side error-handling changes. After upgrading, verify that malformed requests return one of the generic parse-error strings rather than a stack-level parser message. Given the low severity and the absence of public exploit code, remediation can follow a normal monthly patch cycle rather than an emergency change.

Technical ContextAI · show details

a2a-dotnet is the .NET implementation of the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, and A2A.AspNetCore hosts the JSON-RPC transport layer. The affected routine is the internal static A2AJsonRpcProcessor.ProcessRequestAsync in src/A2A.AspNetCore/A2AJsonRpcProcessor.cs, whose catch block for JSON deserialization failures forwarded the caught System.Text.Json exception message straight into JsonRpcResponse.ParseErrorResponse(errorId, ex.Message). Because System.Text.Json embeds JSON paths, line numbers, byte positions, exception type names and library identifiers in its exception text, the error response became an internal-structure disclosure channel, which is the classic CWE-209 (Generation of Error Message Containing Sensitive Information) pattern. The upstream fix (PR #452, commit ccbd12b6108a6a8f0fd5d8b4a9ece3c8a94ba1e4) stops passing the exception text to the client: it emits a generic parse error ("Invalid JSON payload" / "Invalid JSON-RPC request payload") while preserving the -32700 error code and logging the raw exception type and message to an Activity event named json.parse.error for observability. The added unit test explicitly asserts the response no longer contains the submitted body, "JsonException", "LineNumber" or "BytePositionInLine". The CPE entry cpe:2.3:a:a2aproject:a2a-dotnet:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* reflects that only version-tagged releases up to preview2 are known to be affected. The trigger is a malformed JSON body sent to the JSON-RPC endpoint; the available sources do not establish whether any authentication gate sits in front of that endpoint before parsing occurs.

DescriptionCVE.org

A security vulnerability has been detected in a2aproject a2a-dotnet up to 1.0.0-preview2. The impacted element is the function A2AJsonRpcProcessor.ProcessRequestAsync of the file src/A2A.AspNetCore/A2AJsonRpcProcessor.cs of the component Parser. The manipulation leads to information exposure through error message. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Upgrading to version 1.0.0-preview3 is sufficient to resolve this issue. The identifier of the patch is ccbd12b6108a6a8f0fd5d8b4a9ece3c8a94ba1e4. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.
