Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires DB-GPT deployed using the shipped default docker-compose.yml, which sets a static MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD and publishes MySQL port 3306 on all interfaces (0.0.0.0), OR attacker access to the shared 'dbgptnet' Docker bridge network; the attacker then logs in as root@% with the publicly known password to obtain FILE and SUPER privileges. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: operators who changed the default root password, bound 3306 to localhost or removed the published port mapping, or firewalled the host are not remotely exploitable from outside the Docker network. There is no user interaction and no attacker-held credential requirement beyond the hardcoded value, so any instance left in the default state is directly exposed.

Impact

All available signals point to a genuinely high-priority issue for any DB-GPT instance deployed with the shipped Docker defaults. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) describes a network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated path with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact (VC:H/VI:H/VA:H), scoring 9.3 - consistent with the core defect: a static MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD plus port 3306 published on all interfaces. Public exploit code exists (reported by VulnCheck and catalogued by Lasso Security), which raises practical exploitability, but the vulnerability is NOT in CISA KEV and no EPSS score was provided in the input, so there is no evidence of confirmed active exploitation or a quantified exploitation probability - treat exploitation as feasible and demonstrated, not confirmed in-the-wild. The one nuance to flag: the CVSS vector assumes default deployment; real-world risk is gated by whether operators left port 3306 exposed and kept the shipped password (see exploitation_conditions). Because the credential is hardcoded and publicly known, any exposed instance is effectively authentication-free for an attacker, so PR:N is justified. Net assessment: a real priority for exposed deployments, not merely a high-CVSS-but-low-real-risk theoretical flaw, though impact is bounded by the relatively narrow production footprint of the product.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker scans for internet-exposed TCP port 3306 or gains a foothold on the shared dbgptnet Docker network, then connects to the MySQL instance and logs in as root@% using the publicly documented static MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD from DB-GPT's default docker-compose.yml. With FILE and SUPER privileges they read and modify all databases and can read/write files on the host filesystem. Public exploit material exists (VulnCheck/Lasso), so no novel research is required to carry this out.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 20, 2026

DB-GPT through 0.8.2 ships a default docker-compose.yml that hardcodes the MySQL root password and publishes port 3306 on every host interface, so any instance deployed with the stock configuration exposes a root@% database account with publicly known credentials. An unauthenticated remote attacker who can reach port 3306, or who has a foothold on the shared 'dbgptnet' Docker bridge network, can log in with that static password and inherit FILE and SUPER privileges - full read/write access to all DB-GPT data plus the ability to read or write files on the database host. Publicly available exploit code exists (referenced by VulnCheck and Lasso Security); the issue is not in CISA KEV, but any deployment left in its default state is directly exploitable, and operators who rotated the root password, bound 3306 to localhost, or firewalled the host are materially less exposed.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch or fixed version is identified in the available data, so remediation is configuration-level and should be applied immediately to every running instance. Rotate the MySQL root password away from the shipped default by setting MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD from an external secret (Docker secret, .env file excluded from version control, or a secrets manager) and update the DB-GPT database connection variables to match; note that MySQL only honors MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD on first initialization of an empty data directory, so an existing volume requires an explicit ALTER USER 'root'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY ... statement. Remove or bind the port mapping - replace the bare '3306:3306' with '127.0.0.1:3306:3306' or delete the publish entirely so the database is reachable only from the 'dbgptnet' bridge - at the cost of breaking host-based DB clients and admin tooling that connect to localhost:3306. Restrict the root account's host scope, for example ALTER USER 'root'@'%' to 'root'@'localhost' or a specific app host, and create a dedicated least-privilege DB-GPT user without FILE or SUPER; the trade-off is that any DB-GPT feature relying on file import/export or privileged server operations will need targeted grants instead. Additionally firewall 3306 from untrusted networks, and isolate 'dbgptnet' so unrelated containers cannot join it, since network segmentation is the only control that survives a forgotten credential rotation. Detection guidance: query mysql.user for root accounts with '%' as host and check SHOW GRANTS for FILE/SUPER on the account DB-GPT uses; review Docker port bindings for 0.0.0.0:3306 on the host. Technical ContextAI · show details

The root cause is CWE-1392 (Use of Default Credentials), closely related to CWE-798 hardcoded credential usage: the upstream docker-compose.yml at commit 83609c471266607490b24e72188311efa23a0d16 (line 9) defines a static MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD value rather than requiring the operator to supply a secret, and it also declares a published port mapping for 3306 without a bind address, which Docker resolves to 0.0.0.0. The MySQL image consequently initializes the root account as root@'%', a wildcard host entry that accepts connections from any address, including from outside the container once the port is published. MySQL's FILE privilege lets a session invoke LOAD_FILE and SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE/DUMPFILE, giving file read and file write on the database server's filesystem; SUPER allows session termination, server-variable changes, replication control, and log manipulation - together these escalate a credential leak into host-level data compromise and a plausible path to code execution via file writes if an accessible writable path exists. Because the compose file also attaches services to a shared user-defined bridge network named 'dbgptnet', lateral movement is possible from any other container on that network even when the 3306 publish was removed; the data path is unauthenticated at the network layer and the credential is public, which is why the CVSS 4.0 vector scores PR:N with unchanged scope across confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:eosphoros-ai:db-gpt:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* is version-wildcarded, so the identifier covers all releases up to and including 0.8.2 rather than a single build.

DescriptionCVE.org

DB-GPT through 0.8.2 contains a hardcoded credentials vulnerability in its default docker-compose.yml that sets a static MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD and publishes port 3306 on all interfaces. Attackers reaching port 3306 or the shared dbgptnet network can authenticate as root@% to gain full database access including FILE and SUPER privileges.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

DB-GPT deployments using the vendor's stock docker-compose.yml through version 0.8.2 expose a MySQL root account with a hardcoded password on all network interfaces, meaning any organization running the default configuration has effectively published administrative database access to the internet. Because that account holds FILE and SUPER privileges, an intruder reaching it gains full read/write control of all DB-GPT data and the ability to read or write files on the database host, making this a potential stepping stone to broader network compromise. Leadership should care because exposure is determined purely by deployment posture: teams that never hardened the default compose file are directly exploitable today, while those who rotated credentials or restricted network access carry materially less risk.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: remove or bind the 3306 port mapping to localhost, firewall port 3306 from all untrusted networks, rotate the hardcoded MySQL root password and move credentials to secrets management, revoke FILE and SUPER from the application account in favor of a least-privilege user, isolate the 'dbgptnet' Docker bridge network to limit lateral access from a compromised container, and monitor database and host logs for anomalous logins or file access.
