| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an account with project administrator privileges in YouTrack - this is an elevated role, not a standard user. The attacker must have access to the mailbox configuration UI for at least one project that has an email integration configured with stored credentials. The vulnerability does not affect projects with no mailbox integration. The missing control is the absence of re-authentication (password confirmation) before the mailbox host field is saved; without that gate the stored credentials are relayed passively. Exploitation is limited to the credentials of the specific mailbox(es) configured per project, not all YouTrack users' credentials. |
| Impact | The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:N/A:N) scores 6.8 Medium, which is accurate given the PR:H prerequisite - exploitation requires project administrator privileges, meaningfully constraining the attack surface. The S:C (scope change) and C:H reflect that credentials exfiltrated to an external server constitute an out-of-scope confidentiality breach. No EPSS data is provided, and there is no KEV listing or known public exploit, so real-world exploitation risk appears low without additional privilege compromise. The primary concern is insider threat or account takeover of a project admin account used as a pivot to harvest mail credentials. Organizations running on-premise YouTrack with sensitive mailbox integrations face higher residual risk than cloud-hosted users if JetBrains has already patched the hosted service. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A malicious or compromised project administrator logs into YouTrack, navigates to the mailbox integration settings for a project, and changes the SMTP/IMAP host to an attacker-controlled server without being prompted to re-enter their own credentials. When YouTrack next attempts to connect to send or receive mail, it presents the stored mailbox username and password to the attacker's server, completing credential exfiltration in a single low-complexity step. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 07, 2026
Credential exfiltration in JetBrains YouTrack before 2026.2.18769 allows a project administrator to redirect stored mailbox credentials to an attacker-controlled server by modifying the mailbox host setting without triggering re-authentication. The missing re-authentication gate means any project admin who has been compromised, is malicious, or has temporarily elevated access can silently capture email account credentials (username and password) already stored in YouTrack. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and CISA has not added this to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.
RemediationAI
Upgrade JetBrains YouTrack to version 2026.2.18769 or later, which adds re-authentication enforcement when modifying mailbox host settings. The vendor advisory at https://www.jetbrains.com/privacy-security/issues-fixed/ should be consulted for the exact patch release. As a compensating control prior to patching, restrict project-administrator permissions so that only a minimal set of trusted accounts can modify mailbox integration settings, and enable audit logging on mailbox configuration changes to detect unauthorized host modifications. Organizations should also rotate any mailbox credentials stored in YouTrack after applying the patch, as there is no way to determine retrospectively whether host redirection occurred.

Technical ContextAI · show details
JetBrains YouTrack is an issue-tracking and project-management platform that supports integration with email mailboxes (SMTP/IMAP) for notifications and helpdesk workflows. Administrators can configure mailbox host parameters within the project settings. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-201 (Insertion of Sensitive Information Into Sent Data): YouTrack stores mailbox credentials and transmits them when connecting to the configured host. Because the host field can be changed without re-authentication, an attacker can point it at an attacker-controlled server; on the next connection attempt YouTrack will present the stored plaintext or encoded credentials to that server. The affected scope is any version matching cpe:2.3:a:jetbrains:youtrack:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* prior to build 2026.2.18769.
