DescriptionCVE.org

h3 versions before 2.0.1-rc.18 contain an open redirect vulnerability in the redirectBack() utility that fails to sanitize protocol-relative paths in the Referer header pathname. Attackers can craft a same-origin URL with a double-slash path segment that passes origin validation but produces a Location header interpreted by browsers as a protocol-relative redirect to an external domain.

AnalysisAI

Open redirect in h3 (h3js) before 2.0.1-rc.18 allows unauthenticated remote attackers to redirect victims to arbitrary external domains by crafting a Referer header containing a same-origin URL with a double-slash path segment (e.g., http://target.com//evil.com/phish). The redirectBack() utility passes the WHATWG origin check - because the parsed origin is correctly identified as the target domain - but emits the raw pathname //evil.com/phish as the Location header, which browsers interpret as a protocol-relative redirect to an attacker-controlled site. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Three concrete conditions must all hold: (1) the application uses h3's redirectBack() utility in a server endpoint (common in Nitro/Nuxt form-submit or login-flow handlers); (2) the application has catch-all routing so that the crafted URL http://target.com//evil.com/path is served by the app rather than returning a 404 - this is the default behavior of SPAs built on Nitro; (3) the victim is socially engineered to visit the crafted URL and then trigger the redirectBack() endpoint (UI:P). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N, score 5.3) accurately characterizes the threat: no authentication is needed, the attack is trivially automated across the network, but user interaction (clicking a crafted link and then triggering a redirectBack() endpoint) gates exploitation. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade h3 to version 2.0.1-rc.18 or later. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
