n8n is an open source workflow automation platform. Prior to 2.37.7 and 2.38.2, the Instance AI workflow summary used node names and connection keys from stored workflows as ordinary object keys. A workflow submitted through the REST API could contain __proto__ or constructor, causing nested writes to reach Object.prototype in the main n8n process and disrupt later requests. The affected function is summarizeWorkflowStructure in packages/@n8n/instance-ai/src/tools/workflows/summarize-workflow.ts. This issue is fixed in versions 2.37.7 and 2.38.2.
AnalysisAI
Prototype pollution in n8n's Instance AI workflow summary feature allows authenticated users to disrupt the main n8n process by submitting crafted workflows via the REST API. The summarizeWorkflowStructure function in packages/@n8n/instance-ai/src/tools/workflows/summarize-workflow.ts uses workflow node names and connection keys as raw JavaScript object keys without sanitization, so keys such as __proto__ or constructor cause nested writes to reach Object.prototype in the main process and corrupt the JavaScript runtime state. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires: (1) an authenticated account on the target n8n instance with at least workflow-creation/submission privileges via the REST API (CVSS PR:L); (2) the Instance AI feature must be active and capable of invoking `summarizeWorkflowStructure` on the submitted workflow (CVSS AT:P - attack technology prerequisite). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H) accurately reflects the threat model: network-reachable, low-privilege, but requiring the Instance AI feature to be active (AT:P). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to n8n 2.37.7 (patch-branch fix, released 2026-09-02) or n8n 2.38.2 (main-branch fix) as the primary remediation. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
