Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 01, 2026
Path traversal in WWBN AVideo's unauthenticated get_api_login_code API endpoint enables remote attackers to delete arbitrary .log files and enumerate filesystem paths by injecting directory traversal sequences into the code parameter. All versions covered by CPE cpe:2.3:a:wwbn:avideo:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* are affected, with exploitation requiring no authentication or user interaction. The primary security consequence is destruction of audit trails and access logs, which undermines incident detection and forensic response capabilities; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
The primary remediation is to apply the fix described in GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-wh69-gqmj-rcqg at https://github.com/WWBN/AVideo/security/advisories/GHSA-wh69-gqmj-rcqg; an exact patched release version is not independently confirmed from the available input data, so consult the advisory directly for the fixed version tag. As a compensating control pending patching, configure a WAF or reverse proxy rule to reject requests to get_api_login_code containing traversal sequences (../, %2e%2e%2f, %2e%2e/, .%2e/) in query or body parameters - note this may affect legitimate API usage if the code parameter also processes valid non-traversal input. Additionally, restrict the web server process to the minimum required filesystem permissions so that even if exploited, the process cannot delete logs outside the AVideo application directory. Enabling centralized, off-host log shipping (e.g., syslog-ng or Fluentd to a remote SIEM) as a compensating control ensures log integrity even if local .log files are deleted.

Technical ContextAI · show details
AVideo is an open-source self-hosted video streaming and management platform developed by WWBN. The vulnerable get_api_login_code endpoint accepts a code parameter that is incorporated into a file path without sanitization, a textbook CWE-73 (External Control of File Name or Path) flaw. By supplying sequences such as ../../var/log/apache2/access.log in the code parameter, the server resolves the traversal outside the intended directory and deletes the resulting target - constrained to files with a .log extension based on the description. A secondary exploitation primitive is timing- or error-differential-based file existence probing: the API response differs depending on whether a traversal-resolved path exists, exposing filesystem layout to the attacker. The affected CPE wildcard cpe:2.3:a:wwbn:avideo:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* covers all known releases.

DescriptionCVE.org
WWBN AVideo contains a path traversal vulnerability in the API get_api_login_code endpoint that allows unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary .log files by supplying directory traversal sequences in the code parameter. Attackers can exploit this to destroy audit logs and probe for file existence on the server, with the vulnerability enabling both file deletion and information disclosure about the filesystem.
