DescriptionCVE.org

A security issue in MongoDB Server's query statistics serialization on the router allows users with monitoring privileges to access unredacted search query text from other users' operations. An improper conditional check in the serialization logic causes the data redaction mechanism to be bypassed when processing search queries through the sharded cluster router. This results in sensitive query literals being stored and made accessible through the query statistics interface.

AnalysisAI

Query statistics serialization on the MongoDB sharded cluster router (mongos) fails to apply redaction to search query literals, exposing sensitive data to holders of the monitoring privilege. An improper conditional check in the serialization logic causes the redaction mechanism to be bypassed specifically for search queries transiting the router, leaving raw query text - which may contain PII, credentials embedded in queries, or proprietary data - stored and accessible via the queryStats interface. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires all of the following: (1) MongoDB Server version 8.3.0 through 8.3.8 specifically - versions outside this range are not affected; (2) sharded cluster deployment - the redaction bypass occurs in the mongos router serialization path and is not triggered in standalone or replica-set-only topologies; (3) the attacker holds the MongoDB monitoring privilege (e.g., clusterMonitor role or equivalent) - unauthenticated access is not sufficient; (4) the targeted operations must be search queries routed through the mongos. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N) scores 5.1, accurately reflecting the elevated privilege prerequisite (PR:H - monitoring role) and the limited confidentiality impact (VC:L - partial query literal exposure only). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to MongoDB Server 8.3.9 or later, which contains the vendor-released patch for this issue per SERVER-132835 (https://jira.mongodb.org/browse/SERVER-132835). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
